The two English language ones and Environmental Science, all of them were complete BS that had no relevance at all to undergrad.

Aced the English classes, C'd the Environmental Science (mostly got screwed over by organization), but totally dropped the ball on the tests proper.

In the case of APES, that was a Core class so I had no choice.  The other two I wish I had just forewent those tests.

About to do Language and Composition. I'm in AP Bio, but managed to squirm out of the test because I realized it was hopeless.

I've listed them in another thread, and I can't recall exactly off the top of my head, but I will likely be preparing for Comparative Government with my sister for a week starting Thursday. I've previously gone through that with my brother, yet I've never taken  it myself! Such a shame! I do love that course, but I was barred, first by my school, then my mother!

Man, this thread is making me feel old. My AP-test taking days are done, unfortunately. I summed up my experiences in another thread:

Sophomore Year:
Biology -- 4

Junior Year -- got results this weekend:
Chemistry -- 2 Sad consider this to be a personal failure
European History (self-studying) -- 4
Statistics -- 4
World History (self-studying) -- 4
U.S. Government -- 5

Senior Year:
Intend to take, with the school, Calculus AB, English Literature, Environmental Science, Physics 1, Spanish Language. Intend to take, online, Macroeconomics & Microeconomics. Intend to self-study Comparative Government, Human Geography, and U.S. History. Not sure how I intend to survive taking 10 AP tests in a year.

Only voted for the ones I've taken, since the senior year itinerary is still kind of flexible.

So, yeah. I did that, exactly as I described in the post. It involved a great many sleepless nights and a good deal of stress. I did not manage to pass 10 AP tests in a single year, but I did get through 8 of those, which combined with the ones I took earlier means this August I will start at OSU with 60 credits, or as a junior (Rank 3).

These were my scores (just from senior year):
Calculus AB - 3
English Literature - 5
Environmental Science - 4
Physics 1 - 2 Sad
Spanish Language - 5
Macroeconomics - 2 Sad cue the jokes about my political views making this result inevitable
Microeconomics - 3
Comparative Government - 5
Human Geography - 5
U.S. History - 5

Note the dates on those posts; I graduated from high school in the Class of 2015. Since then I've taken some of OSU's "EM" tests, which are specific to our university; I took a Biology test that gave me credit as if I'd received a 5 on AP Bio, and language placement tests for Russian (equivalent of a 5 on AP, though there is no AP Russian) and Latin (equivalent of a 3, which I was quite proud of since I only ever made it through Honors Latin II in high school).

The various AP classes I was in, and some preparing for tests on my own time, were a massive part of my life for 3 years, and they've given me a very large leg up over my fellow Class of 2019 college graduates; I'm intensely thankful for the amount of options my high school gave me and remember it very fondly.

Yeah, like Vosem, AP's were a big part of my high school experience and I believe that they gave me a huge advantage, especially with writing papers in college.

AP Euro: 5
AP US History: 5
AP US Gov: 5
AP Comparative: 5
AP Human Geography: 4
AP English Language: 4
AP English Literature: 4
AP Environmental: 4
AP Statistics: 3
AP German Language: 3

Anyone else get those fancy AP Scholar certificates in the mail at the end of it all?

Obviously, there is no such thing as AP exams here in Austria, but since I am taking my final high school exams (the "Matura") next week, I figured I'd just answer anyway.

I'll be having written exams in German and Maths (those two are compulsory), as well as in English and Italian - all next week; and later in June then oral exams in Maths and English. I also already had to write a 50k-character paper, called "pre-scientific" as you should ideally have incorporated scientific methods in writing it. My topic (free to choose) was Watergate (this might just be the first time I'm talking about this in an environment where I don't have to explain what that is Tongue), and I got graded a 1, which is the best grade in Austria (we have grades 1-5).

None for me. It was not such a big deal to have AP when I was in HS (graduated 1975). My school district (rated one of the best in the state) opted not to offer AP courses. At my 5-year reunion many of my classmates found they were better prepared for college by taking more classes at the pre-college level than by accelerating college material into HS years.

Expectations are very different now. College curriculum is different, particularly in the intro courses covered by AP. University coursework is now much more like community college in those courses with greater uniformity. Good students do benefit from AP courses in ways they did not 40 years ago. However, recent studies show that weak students who take AP are no better off than students who don't take AP at all in college courses.

I took European and US History AP courses. Just to brag on myself, I got perfect scores on both exams. I have always had a love affair with history since my earliest days of sentience for some reason. Smiley

Here are mine:
AP Calculus BC: 5
AP Statistics: 5
AP Physics C (E&M and Mech): 5
AP Physics B: 5
AP Chemistry: 5
AP Biology: 5
AP Computer Science: 4 (my major too -_- )

AP Art History: 4
AP US History: 5
AP US Government and Politics: 5
AP Microeconomics: 5
AP English Language and Composition: 5
AP Psychology: 5
AP Spanish Language and Composition: 5

Too bad it's much easier than almost anything you do in college (experience with taking long exams notwithstanding), so it doesn't help much, though it is nice to have some credits.

I took over a dozen of these in high school, getting 5's on all except for Chemistry, which I got a 2.

Glad to see I am not alone in seeing that test be the bane of people's existence.

I would note, it's kind of interesting how chemistry seemed to have the lowest scores here; I don't remember the test being too tough, but that's probably because the exam was re-designed the year I took it, so I probably had it a bit easier.

This thread makes me feel really stupid. Like really stupid.

Why? A lot of colleges aren't even giving much credit anymore for AP exams.  It's not an end-all-be-all by any means.

Could you elaborate?  Sounds like there's an interesting backstory here.

I used to go on sites like CollegeConfidential, and yeah there's some really f[inks]ing smart folks that do make you feel like sh**t.

You can at least take some solace in the fact that it requires way too much time and energy to take and study for so many AP's...
