The Tories and the Lib Dems seem to get away with bigotry more than Labour and UKIP do; more Tory MPs voted against gay marriage than for it, yet random UKIP council candidates have received more attention than them for posting anti-gay marriage drunken comments online at 4 in the morning. The Lib Dems had no issue with re-selecting an openly anti-Semitic MP last year yet there was no media narrative about an anti-Semitic problem in the Lib Dems.

Its worse than that. He's acting like some kind of Mini Modi and playing at communalist politics with the aim of winning over Gujarati Hindu voters. He is literally running with the slogan - in the relevant parts of London - of 'SADIQ KHAN WILL STEAL YOUR GOLD'.

Though, to the UK posters, are there actually any tensions (overt or not) between Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims in London? Or is the Tory campaign just trying to play on something that was left back in South Asia?

Eh there's bits and pieces- from what I've seen Muslims (specifically Pakistani) tend to vote more so for Labour, whilst the Hindus and Sikhs are targeted more so by the tories. There's the old Pakistan v India thing, but really the only big and dangerous ethnic divide is Tamil v Sinhalese.

For what it's worth Goldsmith is going after the white labour vote with this- the big fear is that a lot of Labour voters simply won't vote for a Muslim (either for bigoted reasons, or because as one said 'I'm pro-gay rights', which is stupid considering SK voted for gay marriage)

That's not the problem, the problem are that the Tories can't run a candidate who is not a aristocrat, yes I get that technical this guy is not nobility, but how the **** can't they run a guy whose families have been part of the ruling elite for centuries.

And that was why I wrote technical, this guy is a aristocrat in everything but name, and while I think the ancient elite should have the same right as everyone else to be politicians, I think it's unhealthy when such group fill so muxh in a party.
