Senators with the highest approval rating

1) Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) – 80 percent

2) Susan Collins (R-Maine) – 79 percent

3) John Hoeven (R-N.D.) – 74 percent

4) Angus King (I-Maine) – 74 percent

5) Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) – 73 percent

6) Thomas Carper (D-Del.) – 69 percent

7) Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) – 68 percent

Cool John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) – 65 percent

9) Al Franken (D-Minn.) – 63 percent

10) Chris Coons (D-Del.) – 63 percent

Senators with highest disapproval ratings

1) Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) – 49 percent

2) Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) – 42 percent

3) John McCain (R-Ariz.) – 42 percent

4) Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) – 41 percent

5) Harry Reid (D-Nev.) – 41 percent

6) Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) – 41 percent

7) David Vitter (R-La.) – 40 percent

Cool Jon Tester (D-Mont.) – 40 percent

9) Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) – 38 percent

10) Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) – 37 percent

In the midst of a such a heated campaign (presidential), these numbers are amazing for Sanders

In general people vetted & in the public eye like Mitch, McCain, Harry Reid, Rubio have poor ratings which maybe a combination of their job (maybe poor) & this. It is very rare for a Presidential candidate like Sanders to have this high a rating.

Vermont loves him, that's expected. To everyone else in the country, he's like that eccentric, lovable uncle that rambles on and on forever that you would never trust with the keys to your house.

I think it's better than being considered dishonest or a lier or a phony although I excessive GOP hate partly contributes to that well.

He has the highest approval rating of any Presidential candidate in almost every state, every poll & by a decent margin. Even states where Clinton won, he was more popular.

I think it is fair to say without the Black Vote going en bloc to Clinton in such a huge manner, Sanders would be winning now in what would be a historic result. But anyways, that discussion is for a different thread.

Without the delusional child vote going to Sanders in such a huge manner, Clinton would have railroaded him out of town back in February.

The fact that Baldwin's last shows this is a junk poll.

And that McConnell is at 49% in Kentucky. McConnell is toxic right now

That's a 49% disapproval rating.

I think his disapproval is much higher than that in Kentucky. The Tea Party and Randroids detest him, as do many Democrats there

Baldwin surprised me at first, but it would make sense that she has a 37% disapproval rating. I can't imagine most Republicans would like her very much. She still has a 43% approval rating, though.

Probably a DINO.  I'm surprised that he donated to Grimes.  As unpopular as McConnell is, I think it's because he is a longtime incumbent, and party leader.  I knew Grimes could not win a Senate race, she is way too socially liberal from Kentucky.  Many Kentucky Democrats are (at least somewhat) socially conservative, and probably just hang on to longtime, historical party loyalty.

Yeah really. I don't necessarily mind Dixiecrats who are centrist or even conservative leaning, but what is the point if you're one of the ones who votes straight ticket Republican for everything from president to dog catcher? Or the ones that are right wing on basically every issue but just are too lazy to update their party registration? I mean, voting for Mitch McConnell as a Democrat? What possible excuse can there be for that? It would be like a Republican voting for Nancy Pelosi.

I voted straight ticket Democratic for the KY elections in 2015, including for Grimes. I intend to vote against Rand Paul in the Senate race this year.

I voted for McConnell because he was going to be Majority Leader, and his seniority allows him to bring home the bacon more effectively. McConnell's office has done a lot for people and businesses that are close to me. If the KY seat would have affected the balance of the Senate, I would have voted for Grimes, but it was clear to me that Landrieu, Pryor, etc. were going to lose, so I voted for a Republican, which is rare for me. Grimes tried to have her cake and eat it too regarding Obama, and I didn't feel she was ready for the Senate. It's one thing to distance yourself from Obama, but what she did was another thing altogether.

Please no.  Last thing our party needs is more Dixiecrat folks.

To be fair, the Democrats who vote for Susan Collins and Mark Kirk are also voting for Mitch McConnell. At least Santander is doing it directly rather than indirectly.

Fair enough.

On a side note, it's pretty interesting to hear someone basing their vote on bringing home the bacon. That used to be extremely common, but seems to be getting more and more rare these days.
