Only here would you argue about the methodology of drinking patterns by political ideologies

There isn't much difference between the two parties, IMO. Republicans and Democrats both love to get drunk. The only difference is Republicans are more likely to lie about it.

I drink fairly regularly (D caucusing) Beer about 80-90% of the time and occasionally wine and cider. On rare occasions i'll have a margarita or other mixed drink.

No and Republican for now. I'm 26 but just never got into hard liquor or large amounts of beer. I'll have one or two and call it a night.

Does this mean the kinds of alcohol that various parties drink?  I suspect that Democrats would mostly drink wine and cocktails, while Republicans would drink beer and whisky.

I think that's more of a regional thing rather than a political one.
Well, considering the regional divide between the two parties, it would probably be both.

What does getting drunk once have to do with drinking habits?

I don't get drunk often since I'm kind of a lightweight, but I do love beer and whiskey. Blue Moon and Whiskey and Coke are my favorites. I'm also a fan of moonshine.

I'm guessing there's also a gender element to it. Wine and cocktails are more typical women's drinks while beer and whisky are men's drinks, at least here.

Yes. I find myself often drunk, actually.
