Benchmarks here correspond to recent elections (in ascending order, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2000, and 1996, respectively).

(In case it matters, don't consider votes for parties in fusion with the major parties as votes for third parties).

People will probably just stay home. The only way Johnson or Stein does well is if the media legitimizes their candidacy, which is not happening.

Considering how unpopular both Clinton and Trump are, I think Johnson and Stein can cobble together 2% between the two of them.

Somewhere between the numbers of 2000 and 2012, so maybe just over 2%. This is assuming that there is no major third party conservative challenger with the backing of major Republicans.
