I've always liked Return of the Jedi, but it really just depends on the day.

I used to love RotJ most as a kid, but when I watch it now, I can't help but notice how awful the writing is (especially the dialogue). As an adult, I appreciate ESB most as it's the only one with any real depth or substance to it.

Revenge of the Sith, as the fuels were amazing and Lucas handled the emotional heft of Order 66 perfectly.

Empire Strikes Back is the best movie but the best scene is Luke aboard the Death Star II.

Thinking that The Force Awakens was a great movie is a great proxy for having sh**t taste, though I suppose that is very different from liking the film. After all, everyone loves The Room.

Suggestion: everyone who puts the prequels in any other place than the bottom three (who cares about the ordering of them internally) is immediately banned from the forum. And perhaps also life, although I suspect that on that front they would not notice much difference.

Militant prequel-haters get on my nerves. (I'll admit that most of that is a defense of Revenge of the Sith. For me, it's a tie between ROTS and ESB, and I love them both for so many reasons. I know the dialogue and acting isn't as good as the original trilogy, but the overall plot and storyline development in Episode III and seeing it happen far overrides that.) If you can't appreciate all of Star Wars, you cannot truly call yourself a fan. Anyway, as for my list:

Revenge of the Sith
Empire Strikes Back
The Force Awakens
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace

I'd be willing to say that the prequels are in certain respects unfairly maligned, but they really do do a lot of things that are just inexcusable.

The prequels were the result of what happens when you give George Lucas total control over his films.

The prequels are really no worse than Return of the Jedi. That film is one giant wasted opportunity, and what we got was bad.
