It's a self fulfilling prophecy, in a way. After Target let transgender people use their preferred restrooms, these Jesus freaks claimed that Target customers would become uncomfortable. Then they went into Target and made customers uncomfortable.

It died off.

This, for the most part. It's still a minor issue for some people, but not nearly as major an issue as it was a few years ago.
