I'm a McAfee supporter, but I fully realize that GJ is more likely to get the LP nomination. If GJ does indeed get it, I'm fully prepared to switch to him and support him as I did in 2012.

I'm not. I may vote for him GJ anyway grudgingly, but his shenanigans of buying delegates and empty hotel rooms has left me sour on him.

What if Johnson is the Libertarian nominee?  Then, who do you vote for?

Right now it looks like he might be the least worst option.

Not me. I might be able to be persuaded to vote for Austin Petersen though.

I would if I lived in a state that was guaranteed to go for Clinton or Trump. But right now it looks like I will be voting for Clinton, unenthusiasticly.

California affords me the opportunity to cast my vote for Gary Johnson without any problem.

Can one of the Yellow Avatars explain to me the main differences between the Libertarian candidates? And are they all doomed to lose against Gary Johnson?

Same here. I did it in 2012 too.

They all support most of the LP platform, but with some minor differences.

Gary Johnson is popular in the LP due to previous results. (Also, he's been trying to rig the national convention delegates to mostly be for him paying for their flights/stays and such)   He's been accused of not really being a libertarian and more centrist, which probably to some makes him more electable.  A lot of his answers are "government should just stay out of it".  Which is great, but also portrays
 a bit of aloofness.

John McAfee (who I support), is a very intelligent, misunderstood candidate.  His humor and history make some question his viability.  He's strong on privacy issues, anti-NSA/Patriot Act/FBI/TSA etc. He is strong on gun rights and also strong on left issues like drugs and freedom of speech.  Possibly the only candidate that really understands cybersecurity and threats from countries like China.

Austin Petersen is more right-libertarian.  Former Rs probably like him best because he's the only one with a strong controlled immigration policy. Also, supports the return to gold/silver currency and removing legal tender laws ala Ron Paul.  (McAfee feels things like bitcoin and credit cards are already taking over money as we know it, so just dump the Fed.)

I hope that helps in some fashion.  It's somewhat difficult to really differentiate them.

It's mostly a difference in style, and Johnson is the frontrunner, although not a complete lock. McAfee is probably the only candidate not to really represent a specific faction of the party as Petersen and Perry do, plus he has been hovering around having 2nd to 3rd highest support, so I think he's easily the 2nd most likely to get the nomination.

Here are some actual policy differences:

Abortion:
Pro-choice: Johnson, McAfee, Perry
Pro-life: Petersen

Anti-discrimination laws:
Private and public: Johnson
Public only: McAfee, Perry, Petersen

GMOs:
Anti-labeling: Perry, Petersen
Pro-labeling: Johnson, McAfee

Office of Digital Transformation:
Create: McAfee
Don't create: Johnson, Perry, Petersen

Standing army:
Abolish: Perry
Keep but reduce: Johnson, McAfee, Petersen

Taxes:
Lower, move to consumption: Johnson
Lower, flatten: McAfee, Perry, Petersen

In that case, I'd probably vote for Johnson if some evil alien space bat forced me to choose.

When 95% of Republicans vote for Donald Trump, Atlas Republicans are going to look like very strange outliers.

95% of Pubs won't be voting for Trump. 85% is more like it by the end. And a good portion of those 15% will be voting for Hillary, just to maximize Trump's losing margin. You just watch.

Romney got 93%, so when Trump gets ~88% with much more crossover appeal, you will see. I was one of the few that stuck it to Romney. No one talks about that even after all the hatred throughout the primary. The extra 3-6% off the top will never stop being discussed I reckon because the media will just love love love love talking about #NeverTrump hysteria. For the record Torie, most of the 5% is full of 'people' (it pains me to call them that) like Ben Kenobi rather than rational Republicans with views like you.

LOL funny how so many of you wouldn't support Johnson. He is the most Republican candidate in the field remaining.

Oh god, I may have to step off the McAfee train.
