FWIW, here is one person's take about how inflated egos facilitated Trump's hijacking of the Pub party.

One "guy's" take?  Did Megan McArdle come out as trans?  Tongue

She seems to be blaming everyone but Rubio for Rubio's failures.

Yep.

Lol. What a terrible article.

Rubio was terrible. He sounded robotic and stayed in way too long. The media decided to ignore that and boost Rubio after his dismal fifth place in New Hampshire. Kasich could've done a lot better if Rubio had dropped and the media stopped fawning over him.

Rubio was a lightweight and he made the fatal mistake of attempting to get into an insult war with The Donald. Idiot.

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Rubio had dropped out right after Super Tuesday.  Louisiana and Kentucky were close enough that Rubio getting out could have pushed Cruz over the top.  Cruz would have almost certainly won Missouri.

Same here. The biggest problems for Kasich and Cruz are April 19th and the 26th. Trump is still going to dominate those 6 primaries.

Kasich probably would have won DC.

I wonder what would happen in Puerto Rico. I don't see Trump winning it. I figure it would go for either Cruz or Kasich in the absence of Rubio.

Some (perhaps most) pundits thought the nomination would come down to a fight between Rubio and Cruz.  And apparently some still won't let go of that belief

The pundits and their thinking represent one of the biggest problems with what's been happening this time around. People have finally realized that if they want to reject what establishment candidates are peddling, they have to stop listening to establishment pundits. So these pundits will stick to their beliefs, but at some point, they'll need to realize that they're simply talking within an echo chamber...

How can one claim Trump "hijacked" the party (a reference to a criminal act of one commandeering a vehicle that is not theirs) when he has received the most votes in a Republican primary from Republican primary voters? Can't the GOP just admit that a strong plurality of their voters actually like Trump and strongly believe in what he says? The old guard needs to stop pretending that Trump "stole" the nomination by "hijacking" the Republican Party. It is both silly and pathetic.

Agreed. Trump is what a plurality of the GOP actually believes.

We're at Peak Trump.  The party always decides, which is why a Rubio nomination is inevitable.

Because he's not a Republican. He has no history of active involvement with the party, and he's at odds with much of the party platform.

If a gunman takes control of an airplane and then announces "We're going to Disneyland, free drinks for everyone" the passengers may cheer (if they're idiots) but he's still a hijacker.
