He lacked charisma. At the end when the inevitable was gonna happen. He did the TRUMP thing with personal insults. But this is a center right not Christian right country. That's why midterms vote to the right and prez vote to left.

Racism.  He was a Hispanic running in a Republican primary against a white man.

His personality comes across as harmoniously as chalk squeaking on a chalkboard. One's immediate impulse is to hit the mute button.

Donald Trump.

I mean literally every politician in the GOP, trying every tactic-from the 'statesmen' image attempted by Bush in NH and SC, the Iowa effort by Walker, Rubio's insults and last stand in Florida and all the others failed.

Tbh his biggest mistake was assuming that Trump supporters would come to him- I knew that Cruz was finished (from getting a straight victory) after he got slapped in the SEC primaries- Cruz should have won Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee  and Alabama by a landslide

None of the above.

He is personally dislikable and disliked: which made him the wrong guy for the anti-trump unity coalition. Far too many people figured out that they hated the guy at a personal level.

Managed to pull off the feat of becoming the candidate of the hates establishment while simultaneously lacking strong support from said establishment, support that might, just, have helped him make up the distance he needed to get to a brokered convention.

Cruz did better than anyone would have thought and I think without Trump in the race he would have completely failed. Nevertheless, I think Cruz's chance at stopping Trump ended the day that Paul Ryan made that speech where he said no to the nomination at the brokered convention.

Kasich staying in didn't help him, either.

Well, I think Cruz would be the nominee now, if The Donald had never entered the race.

Far right religious can't win in todays America.
Lacked charisma to really grab attention eventhough he repeated the same Trumpish things.  Trump said it best months ago " The guy can debate, but he cant talk".

The ultimate nail might have been playing into the narrative of being sleazy. .  carson thing then bragging about forting the will of voters the delegate nonsense.

He didn't have enough appeal beyond ultra-conservative "we Christians are so oppressed Cry" voters. He was also seen as gaming the system after the conventions in Colorado and Wyoming, which was probably the final straw.

This. Not to mention his whole temper tantrum shutting down the government. His fans might have liked it, but pretty much everyone else judged him poorly for it.

The same reason why Santorum didn't win in 2012 and Huckabee didn't win in 2008.  Fundie creeps and movement conservatives make up too small of a % of the party to get one of their own the nomination.

The only reason he lasted this long is because Iowa went first.

Although for some time after Iowa he was largely surpassed by Rubio as the "anit-Trump", which is hilarious on it's own.
