Earlier, there was a tape of John McCain on Hardball talking about Trump as the presumptive nominee. Although he will endorse Trump, it is causing him huge problems against Ann Kirkpatrick in Arizona. He is having so much difficulty that he will have to run the race of his life to win.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Trump effect. In addition I think Arizona is a swing state this time and Clinton will move in at some point with campaign operatives and a turnout apparatus.

Note: These were McCain's remarks at a fundraiser that were audiotaped and played on Chris Matthews' show

Yeah, Kirkpatrick is formidable. And she's the sort of Democrat I can vote for without holding my nose.

This might mean his internals aren't looking so bright.

I wonder if this might be for the primary to Ward??  I have seen a bunch of pro-Ward stuff on my Facebook.

His predecessor, Barry Goldwater, knew when to quit.

Speaking of which, I just found out that only three Senators have held McCain's seat since 1927.

I remember him saying in '08 that he couldn't even take Nebraska for granted. Seemed crazy to think about him worrying about Nebraska, but then he lost the 2nd district...

Funny thing about that is that Goldwater almost lost his seat in 1980
