Without industrial agriculture, modern society would collapse.
Um... no. Agriculture is the backbone of civilization, not the backbone of modernity. One is requisite for the other, but the distinguishing pillar of modern society is liberalism.

Factory farming does not need subsidies. The market will cause such to be done where it is most efficient. I agree on landscape and environmental protection to adjust market incentives, but that hardly makes the case for broad based ag subsidies, which will go to those that do not need them, or to marginal operations, which might be more likely to do damage to the environment, particularly if on a slope or near a river, where stuff might end up in it.

I personally have been boycotting goods with corn ingredients (excepting the nearly unavoidable high fructose corn syrup) out of principle.

Even bourbon?  God you suck!  Wink

Trash. Most subsidies go to large farmers or rich people anyway.

"The country’s top recipients swept 77 percent of subsidies from 1995 to 2012, said Craig Cox, senior vice president of agriculture policy at the Environmental Working Group."

"The majority of agricultural subsidies nationwide go to commercial farms with average incomes of $200,000 and net worths of nearly $2 million, a Heritage Foundation report found."

I'm not opposed to them for certain crops, but they should not be given to factory farms or big agribusiness.
