A truly great debate. I vote 'without'.

Without meat, actually.

My chili recipe calls for 1 pt. kidney beans (sometimes black beans also), 1 pt. diced/chopped tomatoes, onions, green peppers, a bit of corn, a splash of Burgundy, and seasonings. It's pretty good. Great with a salad and a bottle of Italian Chianti/Sangiovese. That wine goes with almost anything, though. Very food friendly. As is its white counterpart, Frascati.

The only correct answer is "with".

I would prefer without, but the one time I attempted to make chili, there was a lot missing, and I would admit that perhaps it could have used beans.

Chili has beans in it.  I prefer it beanless though.

Better w/o beans, but can be downright terrible w/o them.  My liking chili transcends beans, so I will eat it with or w/o, but definitely prefer it w/o.

Anyone who puts beans in chili is evil and should feel bad.

Spoken like a true Texan. No beans for me, too.

I like it either way, but I prefer with beans because it makes it more hearty.

While we're on the subject, chili was one of Walt Disney's favorite foods.  (And he seemed to prefer it with beans.)

My favorite type of chili is Cincinnati style, which is a Macedonian (as in northern Greece, not FYROM) meat sauce that never contains beans.

Some don't consider this chili at all, when it comes to other less controversial forms of chili beans are OK.

My favorite food! I always eat it with (in fact, until now I didn't even know beanless chili existed).

My stepmother's recipe is pretty delicious: browning the ground beef with onions, drain, add chili beans, kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes (with about two tablespoons of sugar so they don't taste so tangy), tomato juice/sauce, chili seasoning, chili powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper (for those of us who love spicy chili).
