What if, in 1968, Nelson Rockefeller had been the GOP nominee and won agaimst HHH and Wallace? Does he win reelection in 1972?

Certainly. If the Democrats nominate McCarthy or Lindsay, it's a lot better for them than McGovern would have been. If the Rockefeller Presidency is more successful, I could see either Humphrey or McGovern winning only RI or MA or MN or a conservative Democrat like Ross Barnett or Reubin Askew winning only MS, AL, SC, LA, GA, and FL, in order of likelihood of winning it.

"Reasonable"? Do you mean "liberal" if Rockefeller won? Yeah, I think McCarthy could do quite a bit by uniting the youth and anti-war wings of both parties. Jackson, meanwhile, would do the opposite.
