He's sort of a Clinton/DLC type, not really a progressive.

I know we've elected Republican Governors many times, but it's still surprising to see that Charlie Baker is not only popular, but the most popular governor in the United States. I still will vote for whoever is running against him as the Democrat in 2018, but goes to show that being as non-partisan as possible can help with approval ratings. I won't vote for him, but the Governor's seat is likely safe Republican assuming Baker runs again.

Is that what you say whenever someone is unpopular? Malloy outright stated after his re-election that Dems should run far to the left, since that's what worked for him (seemingly not realizing that the country overall =/= Connecticut, and that his extremely slim margin of victory was very unimpressive in a deep blue state.)

He's sort of a Clinton/DLC type, not really a progressive.

The legislation he's helped get passed in CT is very progressive:

- Budget deal based on shared sacrifice with no state layoffs
- Decriminalization of marijuana and legalization of medical marijuana
- Transgender rights bill
- Right for day care works and personal care attendants to unionize and collectively bargin
- Repealing the death penalty
- Increasing education funding for early childhood education and low income school districts
- Voter expansion bill that allowed for same day voter registration and online registration
- The best gun legislation in the country. Universal background checks, banned magazines with more than 10 rounds, registry for dangerous-weapon offenders, added over 100 types of gun to the state's assault weapons ban. Issued an executive order to prohibit anyone on federal terrorist watchlists (such as the No Fly List) from obtaining the permits required to acquire firearms in Connecticut, The executive order would also revoke existing permits for people on such lists.
- Allowing all residents, including undocumented immigrates, to get drivers licenses
- Repealed Connecticut's ban on the sale of alcohol on Sundays

Dan The Man is one of the best governors in America!

Didn't he allow Paul Vallas to destroy the Bridgeport school system?

Surprised to see Nixon having a higher approval rating than Branstad because I thought he was really popular in Iowa? Nixon is always quick to declare state of emergencies for the natural disasters and that seems to do him well with the voters here, myself included. He's also a massive FF for taking stands against the extreme right-wing state legislators' ideological bills like the "religious freedom," "personhood," "right to work" fiascos.

On that note, I'm glad to see that Snyder, Christie, LePage, and Walker are still in the toilet. 2014 was such a terrible election.

But remember, if Trump picks Christie, he can carry NJ!

Rauner is also at -20. The people of Illinois miss their hero!

Rauner is the type of politician we need more of in this nation. Someone who will do what needs to be done for their state, not just pander to win the next election. The blame for the state's misfortune lies squarely on the IL legislature, who would rather let the state go into economic and educational ruin than do what needs to be done. Sure, Rauner could sign off on their agenda, it probably makes political sense, but it doesn't make sense for the state. Your silly idea about how if the state brought back Pat Quinn that everything would be great again is ludicrous - he spent five years crashing the state.

Uh, I don't think all democrats are bad. Heck, I don't even think all liberal democrats are bad - I would vote to reelect Governor Dayton if he wanted a third term and I'd vote for Feingold if I lived in Wisconsin. But I'm not going to sit here and pretend Quinn was an asset to Illinois.

IIRC, Malloy's unpopularity comes from both the left and the right. Liberals dislike his handling of the school system, as well as his tax plan that that is seemingly lenient on Connecticut's many corporations. From the right, there's gun control, and the other progressive legislation that Gass3268 mentioned.

That must have been why his approvals were so high and how he got reelected.

Why is Bevin so unpopular so early?

Democratic policies have done wonders for our state.
And Michigan, too.

He's only been governor about 5-6 months.  Are you sure the low job approval isn't just due to people being unable to form an opinion yet?  What is the undecided percentage?

JBE has been in office the same amount of time and his approvals are the opposite of Bevin's (45/33 vs 33/48).

Until they reelect him in 2019. Just as they did with LePage, Scott and Brownback. Some people never learn.

Here's my question: why would you poll 66,000 people around the country to get accurate favorability numbers in every state and not throw in a simple presidential preference question?

The poll was likely conducted over such a long period that a presidential preference question wouldn't have been particularly useful. I do believe Morning Consult has worked with 538 in the past, so we might see individual polling of all 50 states in the future.
