This entire policy is driven by men who fantasise about what they might do if they had access to female restrooms. Dirty f-ckers.

I want to support the whole transgender thing. If men want to wear dresses and get a sex change, I'm cool with it.

As liberal as I am, even I have my own reservations on the bathroom issue.

President Obama did not 'mandate' anything, the administration - specifically the Departments of Education and Justice - issued a letter recommending that public schools should permit transgender students to use the restroom which matches their gender. There is the implicit threat of loss of funding, but those who are decrying this move by the President - which amounts to recommending how to execute a policy - as unconstitutional are being laughably hyperbolic.

Given the current generation of Republicans/conservatives and their rocky relationship with Barry, I'd have been surprised if they didn't cry about this. They keep mistaking modern day America for an America that only exists in a far-right conservative alternate reality.

This would be a great issue for conservatives to rediscover the value of civil society and social convention finding solutions on.

It certainly would, but how does it happen when the federal government is forcing a solution?
Has social convention not been precluded, at least when it comes to public schools?

We have a system now where in any local institution with government funding, any sort of disagreement becomes a federal issue for litigation, rather than one in which people come to some sort of informal arrangement.

If he has a vagina, or a prosthetic penis, should he be using the women's room? Why should a man be in the women's room? Should he pull his pants down to keep the women at ease to show them he's 'not really a man'? Will women even wait for that? Will they call on security, or have someone they are with rough him up for abiding by the law?

Or should he use the mens room, because he's a man?

So you side with those of us who want to keep our wives and kids safe?

With the policies you support, this man would be forced to use the woman's restroom:

But you'd be just fine with him using the same restroom as your daughters, because muh traditional values. Am I not wrong?

JCL. I've asked you this repeatedly and I will do so again. Look at the image above and the image below this post. One word answers will do.

1. Should these individuals use the men's room or the women's room?

2. If you think they should use the women's room to keep 'wives and kids' safe because they have or have had a vagina, please explain precisely why this benefits 'wives and kids' and benefits these
men for these men to be sharing the restroom with women?

3. If they use the women's room, what should they show women to prove to them that they are, as far as the 'law' is concerned, women and not men?

So, these people are intrinsically a danger?

Guys, bigots aren't going to be convinced by a picture of a trans man and explanations of how he's gonna have to use the women's room now. They don't care. The goal is not to keep trans women out the lady's room (as should be obvious, the NC law is an unenforceable farce), it is to ensure that transgender people are excluded from society.

Society at large will become accepting within a generation or so, hopefully. But the pro-HB2 people who actually care about this issue deeply are the type of people who just wish we'd go away. I guess I am happy that Obama sent this mandate out there, but it will surely give bigots and hate-mongerers more ammunition. A sad state of affairs we are in.

The narrative for JCL seems to be "us v. 'the rapists'." So, yeah.

You're more in danger from a Congressman in a bathroom than a transgender person.

Republicans here are off like a shot over our own DoE issuing the same guidelines. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if we ended up joining that suit.
