Trump is going to have to win over tons of Obama voters, but what kind of person would vote for both of them?

(I say 2012 because in 2008 Obama had the whole personality cult behind him.)

White Democrats who aren't really openly racist but still are alarmed by immigrants and Muslims> These can be found in pretty much every part of the country.

Obama won over tons of bush voters.

The problem with super smart and rational atlas experts is that they assume that everyone votes rationally and smart, but people don't vote that way.

Decently rich, generally white, works in the city but lives just outside of it.

A lot will be low-information voters, mostly white and younger than the average voter, who get caught up in the aesthetics of it all and end up voting for the most "celebrity"-type candidate in elections.

One of my uncles.

White blue collar guy-voted for Obama both times but voted for Trump in this year's primary and also supports him in the general.

Voted for Obama in 2008 because of the Iraq War and the Economy, then supported him again in 2012 because he thought Romney only cared about the wealthy and didn't like that he was involved in outsourcing.

Likes Trump because he is anti-amnesty and is opposed to free trade. Also thinks Hillary is untrustworthy.

People who are as turned off by Republican economic orthodoxy as they are by the unprecedented levels of identity politics and pandering by the Democratic Party this election. These people were willing to give Obama four more years, but now they see a country that is just about as divided as it has ever been in their lifetime and they feel that the Democratic Party no longer cares about people like them. Others may feel that Obama is more worried about being politically correct than protecting America from terrorism.

You can't make a serious claim that closeted racists backed Obama in '12 and are going to back Trump in '16 - there may have been such people who voted for Obama in '08, but surely they would have jumped ship in '12. It's very simple - people vote for people who they think care about people like them.

I fit this description.

I am an economic liberal, but a social conservative.  As a result, I have more agreement on issues with Trump than with Hillary.  That Hillary is so unlikeable makes the decision easier.

The partisanship in this country makes us forget that there are swing and split-ticket voters, the ones who actually decide elections. There are theoretically Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Romney voters.

Not racist but islamaphobic? You'd probably find a few New York Jews and Italians that fit this description and would be in this category.

Indeed; and it explains why turn-out will decrease this year.

A white male union Democrat, probably racist and xenophobic, fearful of free trade and immigrants taking jobs from Americans.  Quite possibly a former George Wallace '68 voter.

So racist that they voted for a half-black man for President twice against two of the whitest men you'll ever find?
