There's a difference between where I want to sit and where I sit. Where I want to sit is by myself on a cushy first class seat, where I usually sit is at the back of the place (WAY BACK) in the middle next to two fat guys.

I normally fly in economy and I try to get the exit row over the wings (it's usually the area least prone to feeling turbulence).

I can usually be found a few rows in front of the wings, sitting next to a college kid or businessman, in a window seat, hogging the view.

Aisle seat and back of the plane.  Ideal scenario is to have an empty seat next to me.  It usually doesn't work out because the plane is close to being full.  But whenever there is an empty seat, it's usually near the back of the plane, which is why I target that area.

Wherever I don't have to pay extra.

But on a side note, I hate how they've made economy so cramped and then created "economy plus" where you have to pay extra to get the "extra" room that you used to get for free.

Depends on the length of the trip or time of day.

If it's a short trip of less than two hours or a red-eye flight, I take the aisle seat.

But more often, I grab a window seat so I can look at everything when I'm bored.

However, I always go for Coach to save money and I always try to be as close to the front as I can so as to guarantee room for my carry-on and speed up deboarding time.

coach, back, window

edit-Just like the school bus, the classroom, the theatre, etc.  I want to sit in the cheap seats with the real people making fun of rich assholes in front of us.

Economy/Coach like everyone else, and when I do manage to get a window seat, I try to make sure it is nowhere near the wings.

I don't always succeed.  Tongue

I've always flown coach on account of not being in the top 1%. If I had money to spare, I'd love to fly first class. In terms of coach, I prefer an aisle seat in the front of the plane, which is generally what I get. It's a lot faster to get off the plane in the front, not to mention somewhat quieter. I have mild claustrophobia, so I don't like window seats at all. Aisle seats give you a little bit more leg room. Last time I flew, a couple months ago, I was a good son and gave up the aisle seat to my mom. She's probably the only person I would give up the aisle for. I don't like the middle, but it's more tolerable when you're sitting with someone you know. When I've flown with my younger brother, I made sure I got the aisle and him the middle.
