isn't chicken cheap enough?  Let the poor bastards take a piss and raise the price of your nuggets $.0002/lb.

(I'd also mention that they should quit, but I know how that would trigger some people here so I'll keep it to myself Wink )

In 1916 this would be normal, but it's 2016.

They don't respect the chickens and they don't respect the humans either. The turnover at these places probably is really high.

I assumed the opposite, thinking it was like most other food industry jobs, full of illegals.

This is barbaric.  But people are desperate and there's very little alternative.  And places like this exploit that.

And yet we'll elect Hillary or Trump.. and neither will do a damned thing about it.

More like a friend of anyone who defend them or help them get more money; I don't think the Clintons wake up every morning thinking "What does Tyson Foods want me to do today?"

Tyson is based in Arkansas and Chicago.. that Hillary has ties with them should hardly be a surprise.

Actually, Tyson Foods was one of the original sponsors of Bill Clinton's rise to power in Arkansas politics...

Ah, that's a good point. Though my point still stands on many businesses; many support both Republicans and Democrats, and I wouldn't say Hillary pays more attention to their concerns over any other business with similar concerns.

But if they've had decades long ties, yeah, I could see that affecting her judgement.

Even if you're some sort of misanthropic anarcho-capitalist who thinks the workers are getting what they deserve for not inheriting money from their parents or majoring in STEM, you've got to be severely grossed out by the fact that the person who processed the chicken breasts you're eating for dinner may have been pooping while doing so.

The slaughter industry is reverting to type (I.e. Upton Sinclair) after the decline of the unions.

As we can see, it's not merely the unsanitary conditions the chickens (sentient creatures which must inhabit cages where they are fattened and unable to walk even if there were room to do so) are processed in which exacerbates the risk of disease.  It should go without saying: it should come as no surprise that an industry willing to treat its workers like chattel doesn't care about its consumers, either.  I hope we are all aware that chicken farmers are barely able to make ends meet on the prices they are forced to sell chicken for.  In a situation where so many employees, farmers, and sentient animals are losing; who the hell is winning and why do we tolerate this?

Most of these workers are undocumented, so that's a no go. I'm sympathetic to the approach of some French comrades; burn the place to the ground.
