I believe that the former State Senator from Ohio's 25th district is very impressive, very talented. Can she make a good bid for governor of Ohio in 2018, a midterm election year?

Democrats may need someone to energize them in 2018. If Hillary wins, 2018 may be a disaster for Democrats, including for Sherrod Brown. Turner could wake non-voters up.

She already ran and lost for a much lower position in 2014 by 24 points, so no, she's not very impressive.

Democrats should really try to get a referendum to move state elections to Presidential years.

No, I like midterm Governor elections. Makes the midterms matter more, and it increases turnout for dos ballot races, like those for the House of Representatives.

To be fair, 2014 was a shellacking because of FitzGerald. I have no idea why it transferred down-ballot so much (a combination of reduced turnout and independents punishing Democrats, presumably), but all but one statewide candidate failed to reach 40% of the vote (for what it's worth, she performed worse than everybody but FitzGerald). The 2010 down-ballot results weren't very good, either (and even then, the white Irish Democrat barely broke 40% against Husted).

Maybe Democrats should just stop running candidates at all in midterm elections. [/atlas]

Va Gov race will go Dem.Dems will succeed there and Strickland will unseat Portman. Tim Ryan is the only person who Dems have and he just became Pro choice.

Except no one said that. People pointed out she already ran a statewide campaign and it was totally incompetent and she lost in a landslide.

Turner is very feisty, tough. I like her combative style, even though I am a Independent. She would energize Ohio Democrats in 2018 and beyond.

And let's be fair, she did have to run with ED FITZGERALD.

Yeah, FitzGerald even managed to give Josh Mandel a double digit margin.

The margins were due to 2014 turnout, not FitzGerald.  Turner would've gotten slaughtered no matter what though.  In another year, we'd have picked up a state Supreme Court seat for sure and State Treasurer would've been pretty close (I think Mandel would've narrowly lost).  Yost would've also only beaten Carney for Auditor by like 5-8%.  AG and SoS were always gonna be blowouts and Turner was basically a glorified sacrificial lamb b/c no one good wanted to lose to Husted (who used to have huge crossover appeal once upon a time, I even enthusiastically voted for him for SoS in 2010).

Just about every race has been "Safe R, Safe R, Safe R."  Governorships in blue or swing states?  Lost cause.  Half the legislative branch?  Ceded for a generation.

Spineless cucks, the lot of you.

The 2014 margin was of course mostly due to FitzGerald but I think Turner would still get creamed if the spotlight was on her for 4 months instead of Fitzy. She's something of a loose cannon. I have a difficult time imagining her making it through that many months of being the front page headline of the newspapers without saying something that ticks off swing voters.

"Republicans cannot be beaten in midterms" is the hot new meme.

2018 will be a rough year to be sure, but Democrats NEED to compete for every state house they can. They cannot afford to be locked out of redistricting in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin again while also losing their only two gerrymanders in Maryland and Illinois.
