Discuss with maps.

If you're a Republican, post a map predicting how you'd do against Hillary. If you're a Democrat, post a map predicting how you'd do against Trump

Hillary Clinton: 354 EV's, 49%
RR1997: 184 EV's, 43%
Other: 8%

Here's how I'd do against Donald Trump:

Donald Trump: 48%, 273 EV
RR1997: 46%, 265 EV
Other: 6%

Primary against Hillary: Think Gore vs. Bradley '00.
General against Trump:
Floor:

Ms. Emily "Peebs" Peebles (D-NC) / Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) - 272
Mr. Donald Trump (R-NY) / Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) - 266
Ceiling:

Ms. Emily "Peebs" Peebles (D-NC) / Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) - 359
Mr. Donald Trump (R-NY) / Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) - 179

When Clinton gets indicted on July 24, 2016, her challenger in the primary, 15-year-old trans girl Emily Peebles, is nominated in her place. With increasing unpopularity of the Republican Party, the 272 freiwal holds, but the Courts rule Peebles unconstitutional, and Elizabeth Warren reluctantly becomes President on January 20, 2017.

Probably way too generous, but I wanted to be ruled unconstitutional.

In the general I'd hold down the base against Trump. I would be able to evade most of the corruption, trade, and Iraq issues associated with Clinton but could be attacked as too left-wing. I don't see Trump making a "too leftist" attack particularly convincing though, considering I could just use materials of Trump championing the same economic ideas as I do at some point in his history, and unlike Bernie I don't call myself a socialist, so they wouldn't have any material they didn't try on Obama. I would be a mainstream Democrat on social issues and wouldn't emphasize them in my campaign so it would be ineffective to paint me an SJW.

My biggest public attacks on Trump would focus more on his incompetence and flip-flopping rather than political incorrectness, to avoid offending anyone (oh, the irony of not being PC for the sake of not offending people)
However, I would run a lot of targeted ads at women, Spanish hispanic targeted ads, etc. where Trump's comments would be considered offensive. If focus groups/studies say some other strategy is more effective, I'd switch. I'll play the culture war only if it will help politically.

Ordinarily, my lack of experience and political knowledge would destroy me, especially in a debate, but with Trump in the race it'll lower the standards to the point where I wouldn't look worse in comparison.

I wouldn't be good at turning out blacks, which cost me Ohio and Florida. I rarely ever interact with black people in my life so I could see myself flubbing there. Trump's lack of appeal with wealthy suburban voters keeps VA in my column. Other than that I'd be a good fit for the 272 freiwall.

New Canadaland 50%
Trump 47%
Other 3%

Swing states:

North Carolina 51-47 Trump
Ohio 50-48 Trump
Florida 50-48 Trump

Virginia 50-48 New Canadaland
Pennsylvania 51-48 New Canaland
Iowa 51-46 New Canadaland
Colorado 51-45 New Canadaland
Wisconsin 52-44 New Canadaland
Nevada 53-44 New Canadaland
New Hampshire 53-44 New Canadaland

In reality, I lose every state, but for the sake of this let's pretend I am an at least somewhat well respected who is actually eligible and qualified to be president of the United States.

Me vs. Hillary

375-163

Low turnout among the religious right and more working class republican causes me to lose many state in the east.

Me vs. Trump

315-133

I might be a bad Republican, but I am an even worse Democrat. Tongue

Me vs. Clinton

I'd be able to tack to the left and get some Sanders supporters, and I might be able to pick up a few more votes out West, but I'd still get demolished, since we occupy the same wing of the party. More likely, I'd have dropped out long before the primary:

Me vs. Trump

I actually think I could do reasonably well against Trump. It might be a weird map, though. Since I'm not a great fit for the Midwest, but I think if I made it to the general, I would probably have a pretty good winning coalition:

Crumpets/Tammy Baldwin 279 EV
Donald Trump/Paul LePage 259 EV

Primary: Clinton vs. Rock
A super-liberal primary challenge from L. L. Rock of New York fails, doing worse than Sanders.

Hillary Clinton
L. L. Rock

General vs. Trump

L. L. Rock (D-NY)/Ken Salazar (D-CO) 384 EVs
Donald Trump (R-NY)/John Cena (R-MA) 154 EVs

Rock wins a huge landslide by locking up the liberal Sanders-esque independents and locking up 90% of the Jewish vote with amazing turnout and balancing himself with Salazar. His clean legislative record enables him to withstand most of Trump's attacks.

Since it's much more fun than to have yourself lose in these scenarios rather than give yourself a very unrealistic win, here's my floors for both"

Between Trump and I, it's a mess. Just a god awful mess. A bigger mess than Jeb Bush's campaign and love life. I don't want to talk about how big of a mess this is.

Donald Trump/ Chris Christie 288 EVs
Samuel Gotham/ Jim Webb 250

The Gotham v. Clinton election is a bit more straightforward. Gotham advances margins in Southern and Appalachian states at the expense of being crushed out West. Hispanics come out heavily for Clinton, while Gotham takes almost 20% of the Black vote.

Hillary Clinton/ Al Franken 349 EVs

Samuel Gotham/ Rick Santorum 189 EVs

Governor R. Pryor (TN)/Senator Cory Gardner (CO) - 310, 51%
Secretary Hillary Clinton (NY)/Secretary Tom Perez (CA) - 228, 47.3%
I run a very identity-focused campaign, making immigration reform and criminal justice reform major talking points on the trail, being very focus with the fact that I came from an immigrant family. So, Marco Rubio with a bit more charisma and less flip-flopping.

Against Hillary? I only win some states because I'm not Hillary.

Against Trump? I just might win because I'm not Trump.

I was actually in the process of posting a map myself until I thought for a moment and realized that I can't be objective about this, and in all likelihood if I ran on what I believed in (the only way I could see myself running, give or take minor concessions), then a majority of the country probably wouldn't find me acceptable Tongue

In my defense, I was defeated by Hillary in the primary, and I stated that me v. Trump was unrealistic myself.

^^

vs clinton, i'd be running as a zero-chance protest candidate, essentially

(that's assuming a one-on-one race. if sanders &c are in, i'm probably below 5% more or less everywhere)

vs trump, i'd put a lot of my more radical positions on the backburner and focus on trying to build a competent campaign and ground game. run as "generic d" basically.

(279/259 - assuming, again, a pure one-on-one race)
