The anti-science GMO fearmongerers aren't going to like this.

We need to prevent climate change - not "adapt" to it.

I thought climate change wasn't real? Or did it become real now that it can be used as a weapon against the ev0l hippie Luddites?

A bit late for that. We're already 1C above the pre-industrial baseline. Last time temperatures were that much higher, the Great Plains were a great desert.

Too late. We need to adapt as best as we can, while also limiting what is already unavoidable.

It's too late to prevent all of climate change, since some of it has already occurred.

I don't want to get into the GMO hullabaloo specifically but it's hard to avoid the conclusion that it's difficult to be idealistic about agriculture in general, times being as they are.

It's already happening. Islands and shorelines are already disappearing under a rising sea level. Extreme weather is already becoming more common.

Even if human civilization were to disappear tomorrow completely without a trace, it would still happen because of the consequences of our actions.

The statement that GMOs have not affected the overall rate of agricultural production is what I find most surprising and noteworthy here.

This reminds me of when an Australian politician who is a "climate skeptic" made a joke about Pacific island nations having water 'lapping at their doors' being the reason they had trouble keeping time commitments.  It takes a lot of gall to deny climate change and then turn around and make a racist joke implying that the threat is real.
