Damn shame, I wish him the best.

Hopefully this doesn't lead to Donna Merkado Kim getting another shot at this seat. I'd even prefer Hanabusa returning over her.

Yes we must stop those planned parenthood officials from entering Congress.

Ikaika Anderson or Douglas Chin seem likely nominees.

Maybe the GOP could nominate an actual Republican for this seat. So far the only GOP candidate is running as a Democrat as well.

I wish Takai the best, this is sad. Cancer sucks.

As for people running for the seat, I wouldn't be surprised if Colleen Hanabusa tries to reclaim the seat. I think she'd probably win, too

Wish Rep. Takai speedy recovery. My grandfather is a pancreatic cancer survivor, it is a terrible disease.

Good luck winning in Hawaii with an "actual Republican".

Anyway, here's hoping Rep. Takai beats cancer, that's a lousy way to go.

Case didn't run last time the seat was open. IIRC, he joined a lobbying firm and made a statement saying his political career was done.

The filing deadline for Hawaii is June 7th, so we'll see this race take shape pretty quickly.

-Donna Mercado Kim has stated she is unlikely to run, but didn't rule it out.
-Former Rep. Ed Case is out
-Ex Lt. Gov Duke Aiona (R) has declined the race, but publicaly encouraged Charles Djou to try again.
-Stanley Chang, who finished 3rd in the primary, is currently running against State Sen. Sam Slom and seems unlikely to drop that bid.

Ugh, no. Hanabusa needs to just stay in the private sector, Hawaii needs newer and younger candidates for the seat.

Maybe Mufi Hanneman will embarrass himself again and run in the primary.

I know that progressives/leftists are supposed to hate Hanabusa, but I can't remember why.

You can definitely do worse in Hawaii (like Donna Mercado Kim, Mufi Hanneman, Tulsi Gabbard, ect. ect.)

I mean someone who could gain a large amount of seniority for Hawaii would be better, but there are a lot of socon blue dog weirdos in Hawaii to where Hanabusa is pretty acceptable.

HanabUSA won't probably be challenged in the primary, unfortunately. I think she'll scare off any actually progressives like Stanley Chan.

As somebody who hasn't paid much attention to Hawaiian politics, what's so disliked about Hanabusa?

Hanabusa is very much a DLC type. Certainly can get a lot worse as far as Hawaii Democrats go (Some are literal DINO's) but it hasn't endeared her to progressives.

Because she had the audacity to run against an appointed Senator.

(I wonder how many of these people complained about a "Hillary coronation")
