He was only there since mid-2014, but it was funny while it lasted.

Shame, he was one of my favorites. My district has a lot of turnover recently, hopefully the next congressman is as good as his three predecessors.

Only slightly more than 2014 (I'm not sure of the exact numbers because Wikipedia is not updated).

At least 10 out of 29 members of Florida's congressional delegation next year will be freshmen. Could be 11 to 13 if Corrine Brown or DWS loses a primary; or Carlos Curbelo loses re-election to Annette Tadeo.

Apparently no one wants to be a congresscritter from Florida anymore.

She probably runs, but will she do any better than last time?

I was about to mention her. Do you know if she has a good shot?

Also, Chauncey Goss and Vice Mayor Gary Price both live in the district, IIRC.

I don't know the district well, it wasn't on my radar this year. She really only lost the 2014 special election because of Clawson's money advantage and a split vote. I wouldn't count her out, but I wouldn't count her in. I wouldn't be surprised if the firm I intern for ends up picking her up as a client. We seem to go for the candidates who straddle the establishment and mainline conservative gray area.

Retiring after a single term? Is it an incoming scandal, or did he just get bored?

His father is having health problems, which is fancy talk for saying he probably found a really good private sector job.

Make that 11 to 14, because it's very possible Dan Webster loses in his attempt to move to the 11th District.

Fun fact: Clawson is the only currently serving Mormon Congressman from outside the Mountain West region.

Correct. There are nine Mormons in the House: Clawson, Cresent Hardy (NV-04), Matt Salmon (AZ-06), and all 6 from Utah and Idaho. They're all Republicans, though there are two Mormon Democrats in the Senate (Tom Udall and Harry Reid).

Mark Udall of Colorado was also a Mormon IIRC, but he was defeated for reelection so RIP.

Actually Mark has never been a Mormon; his dad Mo Udall became an inactive Mormon long before Mark's birth, and I don't believe Mark identifies as any particular religion. Tom's dad Stewart Udall was more devout, but Tom Udall is rumored to be a Mormon in name only (a MINO, if you will).

Harry Reid is a believer though; he attends church services in both DC and Las Vegas back in Nevada; I even know a guy who attends that particular Vegas congregation and took pictures of Harry Reid chilling out in a church pew. He's also addressed the LDS Democrats caucus multiple times.

Can we get cokehead Trey Radel back? He was a great improvement over Cornelius Harvey McGillicuddy IV.

At this point, his successor's potential successor might be even more interesting. Carpetbagging candidate from Maryland who lost three races there and then moved to FL-18 to run for Congress only to move to FL-19 goes crazy on one of Florida's (usually finest, not this time) reporters.

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/08/go-fck-yourself-you-piece-of-sht-florida-gop-candidate-angrily-melts-down-at-reporter/

Shame, Bongino was one of my favorite candidates, but his shameless carpetbagging and his inconsistency on his residence in Florida was a turn off to me. Also, having had Allen West as my Congressman for a term and getting to know him (yes, I once saw Allen West enough for him to know who I was by name), I am definitely more inclined to a serious candidate like Francis Rooney these days. Not every candidate has to be a Ron Paul style ideologue or a Donald Trump style bomb thrower.
