well no he can't be a liberal democrat, he's not from the uk.  besides, trump would either be a kipper or a tory if he was british

and mainstream american politicians (with the exception of trump and the far right of the republicans) speak about immigration in a way that would shock all but the left wing of the Labour party and some ardent Lib Dems here.  Perhaps the answer is that countries and split on all issues differently to each other, and that a right winger in, say, Germany still has more in common in terms of values with the american right than they do with the American left
