and mainstream american politicians (with the exception of trump and the far right of the republicans) speak about immigration in a way that would shock all but the left wing of the Labour party and some ardent Lib Dems here. Perhaps the answer is that countries and split on all issues differently to each other, and that a right winger in, say, Germany still has more in common in terms of values with the american right than they do with the American left
The immigration issue in America has nothing to about paving a real path to citizenship and everything to do with power and adding another minority class dependant upon one party( currently the Dem's). The rich donor class(nevertrump type republicans) see cheap labor and a chance at keep middle class wages low and controlable.
Immigration reform can happen but unfortunately neither side will accept losing the war of words. Hispanics are all in for whomever will support their way of thinking and whats only good for them.
