What does this portend for the General Election? Hillary Clinton has attacked Trump as being "Dangerous Donald." This is a clear prelude to running Daisy ads. It is clear that Hillary plans to argue that Trump is too dangerous, reckless, and unpredictable to be Commander in Chief.

Meanwhile, so far Trump has mostly focused on attacking Hillary as "Crooked Hillary." It is clear that Trump is going to argue that Clinton is corrupt, in addition to attacking her handling of Bill's extramarital affairs.

But Trump knows what is coming from Hillary - this "dangerous" framing. So, this explicit argument that Hillary is "dangerous" is a new line of attack from Trump, and a response to what is coming from Hillary. I think we are probably going to see more of this from Trump. He is going to adopt a tripartite attack, trying to argue that Hillary is:

1) Crooked.
2) Dangerous.
3) Anti-women.

Meanwhile, Hillary is going to be arguing the same points 2 and 3, but also that Trump is anti-minority.

2) Dangerous.
3) Anti-Women.

Clinton needs to hammer home TrumpMiller's many deep flaws, not his politics. Make sure that everyone in America knows he's a pathological liar, concerned only with himself, and has a long history of making bad decisions.


Forget "Dangerous Donald".  What the Clinton campaign wants everyone repeating is Terrible Treacherous Trump, who continually makes mistakes, then lies about it while stabbing his partners in the back to make a buck for himself.

While she does need to make sure that his previous statements, positions, and actions stick to him like stinky glue, her campaign shouldn't make them the core of their anti-Trump position. (They can use his attempts to redefine himself against him. Every time he contradicts himself, he's just proving that he's a liar. A "there you go again" sort of attack, but sustained over months.

Trying to win against him on politics as usual is a game for suckers. It's how he wants to spend the next six months. What Trump doesn't want to be doing is spending the rest of the election trying to convince people that he's not just a con-artist with an ego bigger than his hair.

This is the one advantage with Trump. OTher candidates a single gaffe would take them down. But Trump has so many, and Hillary has so many, that the waters will be too muddied for any kind of LBJ Daisy Redux to break through.

I don't know that "dangerous" is a moniker that will dissuade voters. In 1980 Reagan was portrayed as dangerous to the point of being called a "mad bomber" who would get us into WW3. There was no question that Reagan spoke in very strong, black and white terms on some questions of foreign policy during the campaign. The media liked the diplomatic language of John Anderson, but the voters liked what Reagan said.
