I suspect I would have supported some compromise whereby the colonies get representation in Parliament and increased autonomy but no independence. I say this a firm Brexit opponent, for many of the same reasons.

Strongly Support, against those British F*ks. Probably also a radical, supporting a republic, and universal suffrage, trying to form a old-school progressive group in politics.

Honestly no idea. I'd probably start off supporting some sort of compromise where we get representation, but later move fully towards the Patriots.

From a religious identification standpoint, an independent America doesn't offer much hope. One of the purported motivators of anti-British sentiment was the granting of religious rights to Catholics in the Quebec/Ohio River Valley area. Handing the continent over to the more zealous Protestants doesn't seem a particularly wise choice.

It wasn't so much the religious aspect per se as the fact that the expanded Quebec did not have a legal system based on the common law and that it cut off land claims that the English colonies had made from being exploited by land speculators such as George Washington.

TBF, a lot of us would've been very different people if we were raised in the 1700s.

Which is why these questions are so impossible to answer.

This sounds like what I probably would've advocated.  I most likely would've opposed the way the taxes were levied, but I probably would've called for giving the colonists representation in Parliament, or for the taxes to be collected by the Colonial legislatures rather than Britain itself.  Probably would've remained neutral for most of the Revolution, but eventually come down on the side of the Patriots once it became clear that Britain wasn't going to do that.

Taking potshots at redcoats at the Cowpens. Wouldn't have much reason to dislike the British dominion outside of regional pride, but would've been swept up by Marion's charisma and passion.

Assuming I was still born in born Nevada to parents who were born in California and Montana, that would probably make me either spanish or native american, so I most likely wouldn't have much opinion on the british colonies. Tongue

If I'm "me," then I'd be a German immigrant and probably want nothing to do with the British, so I think I'd be a pretty big patriot.

Marion is overrated and he wasn't at Cowpens, tho Pickens was. Marion never ventured far from his Pee Dee base of operations during his time as a partisan commander.

Assuming I was still born in Minnesota, I'd probably be native American and wouldn't care much as a result. Given that I have no interest in ever serving in the military, I honestly doubt I'd want to walk across the country and offer my services to one side or another if I was alive in the 1700s. But then again, you never know.

If I was born in the colonies, then probably this:

I suspect I would have supported some compromise whereby the colonies get representation in Parliament and increased autonomy but no independence. I say this a firm Brexit opponent, for many of the same reasons.
