What about Tipper Gore?  The slogan could be "Clinton/Gore: Better the second time around!"

Maybe you subconsciously really want Bill Nelson.

Anyway, I'd prefer a Warren, Franken, or Sherrod Brown type, but Kaine is most likely.

Elizabeth Warren, but most everyone else here think it will be Tim Kaine up until she proves them wrong.

If she really thinks Kaine is a safe choice for preserving a possible Democratic Senate majority, then she is wrong. McAuliffe can fill the seat for now, but Kaine's replacement will have to run to keep his seat in the next general election, which is 2017's off-year gubernatorial race, where turnout is much lower. Virginia would not necessarily be a lock, especially considering their habit of siding with the party not in the White House during these elections. That was only recently broken in 2013 and it's not known yet if that was a fluke or the start of a new trend.

If there are problems with the economy in 2017, Republicans could end up with the Governor's mansion and a new Senate seat, born completely out of Hillary's stupidity.

There seems to be two main criteria that Hillary is going by (aside from all the usual vetting criteria): she wants someone she has a good working relationship with, and also someone qualified to be a good President "if something happens".

I don't know all these people on the list, but who do you think would make the best President?

And who among them has a good working relationship with Hillary?

(Warren does not have a good relationship with Hillary.)

If John Kasich wasn't Governor of Ohio Sherrod Brown would be the perfect choice.  He's from Ohio.  He can appeal to blue collar white males, which is Hillary's weakest demographic.  And he's progressive enough to help get skeptical Bernie voters on board.

Worst case scenario Mary Taylor or Pat Tiberi gets a Senate seat. It's not the end of the world or even the Senate for the Democrats.

I think it will be Kaine as he's incredibly safe.

My shortlist would include Bill Nelson, Elizabeth Warren, Tom Wolf, and John Hickenlooper.

I personally think Wolf would be a solid pick as he'd help cement PA in the Democratic column. But, he's been a fantastic governor of PA so I'd hate to take him from that role.

I like Kaine--a solid track record and an amiable personality.  Plus, it makes Virginia that much stronger in November.  OTOH, Sherrod Brown would be perfectly acceptable for similar reasons.

Something that hasn't been discussed much, I don't think, is the fact that Bill Clinton is going to be hanging around, and he's going to have tasks to do. So, the next VP is going to have to be congenial to and open for the "other" President to be in their face, so to speak.

He's not an option in this poll, but does anyone else think Xavier Becerra would be a solid pick? I think he would be an excellent choice, and we wouldn't be risking a seat in the Senate either (and his house seat is solidly democratic)

Been saying that since the start. But of course, the speculation will continue until he's finally announced.

Tim Kaine.  Because she is running against Donald Trump and is the clear favorite to win, Clinton will likely conclude that the safest pick is the best pick.  She doesn't need to throw a long ball, just grind it out via her ground game to win.   It may not be pretty or exciting but it will get the job done.  More importantly, Kaine is also a strong governance pick with a variety of experience in high-level government and politics.

For the sake of Hillary winning, I hope she picks Franken.

In my non partisan la la land, she picks Colin Powell and doubles down on a hawkish foreign policy.

I'm predicting Kaine, but I'm hoping for Becerra, Franken, Klobuchar, or Warren.
