Yes. All birth control methods should be freely distributed as a public service. At my university you just have to go to the student health center and ask for condoms to get them for free. Something similar should be set up for everyone.

Why don't you buy them yourself? Why do the taxpayers have to pay for your rubbers?

If you can't afford condoms you don't have sex. Quite simple.

You can already get free condoms fairly easily (Planned Parenthood, for instance).

As Alcon said, private organizations can already give you free contraceptives.  Why force taxpayers to do it?

Er... why? Aren't there better things for the Government to spend money one? The U.S Healthcare system is *extremely* inefficient as things are...

Which is why I would gladly pay for your castration.  I think we can get quite a collection for you from the forum alone.

How much would this cost? Bearing in mind how inefficient the healthcare system in the U.S is anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion that the amount wasted on this insane idea would be more than the total amount of money spent on healthcare by most countries... And for what?

stopping people who shouldn't have kids from having kids. I am in favor of a universalized health care system though, so it'd just be part of that.

My university does it fine though, I can't see it being a major hassle then.

Who determines who should and shouldn't have kids?

It would drain a hell of a lot of money away from essential services; the point of universal healthcare is to prevent and cure the illnesses of the bulk of the population, not to waste billions on this sort of thing.

How many people go to your university? How many people are there in the U.S?
Besides, if your uni can provide it, why should it be funded via taxpayers?

I remember the thin condoms from the free clinic.  They're the cheap kind that break easy.  Don't trust 'em.  Spend some money on some Trojans, ya cheap bastard.  $2.36 for a package of 3 at Wal-Mart.

Yes, of course birth control should be 'socialized', as well as all other medical care.

Change the subject question to: "Should I be able to have sex at the taxpayer's expense?"

Everyone should answer no, haha.

It has nothing to do with 'having sex at the taxpayer's expense'.  The sex may be paid, or free, or have emotional costs, but in any case all of these are paid by you.  The state should merely provide medical care, for obvious reasons.  Public health is not an individual matter, but rather one of managing things like pregnancy and transmission of various diseases through the population.  A society with provision of free medical care, free STD treatment, and birth control methods will be a much healthier one.
