Jesse Jackson is really a tragic figure because unlike, say, Al Sharpton, he had the potential to become an awesome transcendent advocate for the white, brown, and black working class but unfortunately has been done in by his own frailities

could jesse jackson play kingmaker this DNC convention? if he gives a last minute endorsement of sanders or clinton that could swing the 15-20% of blacks who strongly admire him over nd result in a brokered convention. remember the rainbow coalition is still VERY strong.

I had said the same thing in a thread in the winter. Jackson still has a movement from '84 and '88.

He's still alive? LOL

(That applies to both of them.)

Yes. Every Saturday morning in Chicago he has a rally for Rainbow PUSH. Jackson is somewhat influential, but he did not endorse either Sanders or Clinton this year. Some people thought that he would have been a better president for black Americans than Obama if he had won in '84 or '88.

I'm not black, but Jackson is ideologically/on policy for sure WAY better than President Obama.  It's possible he would have had scandals and he and his advisors would have been way less competent, idk.  And he was clearly way less electable at that point in American history.

When exactly did Jackson become a joke of a figure? From what I read he was actually doing well with Democratic white voters in 1988 and was even considered the favorite after Michigan. What did he do to be put on Sharpton's level?
