It depends. Republican-controlled states would choose closed primaries and 2 week deadline because same-day registration increases Democratic turnout. Democrat-controlled states would obviously do open with SDR. My personal preference is anything with SDR, as that is very beneficial for voters.

I write this based on the assumption that SDR is for the general, too.

Closed primaries is the way to go.
Having people who aren't members of one party to decide who is going to be its leader is a ridiculous proposition.

Open primaries and same day registration. Every American should get a say! If you request a Democratic ballot at the primaries, you should have to declare as a Democrat though.

I dont really mind what the States do.

I just wish they were consistent.

As someone explained to my pea-sized brain previously on this esteemed political forum, it's the:

United States of America

not the:

United States of America.

I actually honestly never knew that, and it reflects more the history of how the States grew and came to be governed.

Closed primaries would be an enormous hassle for states like Washington, which don't have party registration. It would be nice for every state to have the same system, but that doesn't seem practical at this time. Of course, many people are going to let the results of this primary inform their opinion...

Open primaries - if I'd cross over if a certain person got nominated, I should be able to let the party know that, right?

Closed seems reasonable for a multi member district system, but in a country with a lesser of two evils fptp structure, court decisions related to ballot access squelching third parties, widespread voter disenfranchisement, and anemic levels of participation, it has to be open sdr.

The system is rigged so that the Democratic and Republican parties are the only two games in town, so everyone should be able to vote in at least one.

Write in: semi-open primaries with same-day registration.

Open primaries with same day registration because a government-maintained database of party loyalty is silly in the American system.
