This is obviously good for Bernie no matter what because he gets more airtime for his message; it could be really good for Hillary if Bernie gets off several scathing lines/punches Donald really hard and his followers/undecided voters hear about it.

If Bernie is milquetoast, this plays into Donald's hands by giving him more free media.

If Sanders is smart, he'll go in there A) willing to be really aggressive and almost nasty to Trump in shutting down whatever bullsh**t he says immediately - none of this Bernie Mr. Nice guy sh**t from some of the earlier Hillary debates - and B) find out a way to turn every attack on Hillary into a scathing reversal on Trump, which really shouldn't be too hard.

For instance, any attempts to say that Hillary is corrupt could immediately mention Trump's long, long history of bribing politicians in New York City and beyond to get tax breaks, his association with the mafia, ripping people off at Trump university, etc.

The issue is that he needs to rehearse these transitions to make sure that they aren't awkward and carry maximum punch.

Hillary will destroy him in any remotely well-adjudicated debate.

Cowardly Donny names an intentionally exorbitant sum that the networks will never pay because it allows him to look smug and cocky while evading getting called out on the national stage for his vacuousness.  Unfortunately many will fall for this.

Do they even have that kind of money?

Assuming they don't, that million dollars is such an obviously positive EV investment in their future ratings
