I saw this quote from Newt Gingrich in an article today:

"No one in American history has moved from a June 16 announcement to a May 26 winning of a majority," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, rumored to be among the candidates on Trump's vice presidential short-list, wrote on Twitter Thursday. "Trump's achievement is remarkable."

What is his point?  Is he talking about exact dates?  Because otherwise, every 4 years 1 candidate in each party has moved from announcing their candidacy to winning a majority.  The historical aspect of this one is that Trump was opposed by the establishment.

On top of Gingrich making no sense, the winner-take-all system of delegate apportionment as well as the fact that Trump still only had 40% of the vote when he became unopposed makes any historical aspect of this somewhat moot.

I think Gingrich's point is that Trump entered late.

Many got the nomination who announced later. And by coincidence, Al Gore announced on June 16 the year before.

He's not making sense because his mouth is full of Trump, but I think the correct interpretation of his "words" is: "Please make me your VP, Mister Trump".

He's saying that this is just the first part of his Frank Underwood-esque plan
