My favorite Senator is Chuck Grassley [R-IA] and Keystone Phil is Rick Santorum [R-PS] as we all know. So which thicket made up of our favorite Senators is stronger?

I'm not saying this could happen, because i'm sure Senator Grassley will not be a GOP nominee in any election, but I was just curious.

Santorum/Grassley because he would carry 13 more battleground EV's than vice-versa. Also Santorum is a hell of a lot more charismatic.

I don't know enough about Grassley to really say. It also kind of depends on the opponent.

I would not vote for Santorum/Grassley. Although I do find him dull, Grassley is a respectable statesman and we could certainly do worse (and probably will).

Grassley/Santorum would be a stronger ticket.  Santorum comes across as an extremist, and he doesn't even live in Pennsylvania anymore.  While Grassley is right-wing, he sounded MUCH better in his campaign ads last fall.  Grassley visits all 99 counties in Iowa at least once a year and drives a 1986 Oldsmobile Delta 88 to do so.  Santorum can be portrayed as out-of-touch and an opportunist, while the labels would be MUCH harder to pin on Grassley.

Chuck Grassley would be a strong contender for president. I could even see him winning, although the chances are smaller than a few other Republicans.

Both are terribly weak tickets. I do respect Grassley though, I think he's a good senator.

Grassley, because he's more experienced, can hold his tongue, and would be able to spin the fact that he has the highest percentage of attendance at Senate meetings.

Grassley is clearly a popular incumbent senator, who comfortably won re-election in 2004 with 70% of the vote, if I'm not mistaken, while Santorum faces a hard fought fight in 2006

Grassley commands the support of many Democrats in Iowa - and for this reason (i.e. bipartisan appeal and cross-ideological support) he could be a tough guy to beat

As to whether he has the personal attributes to President, however, I don't know; whereas, Santorum, strikes me as the kind of guy who would win the GOP nomination in that he is popular among conservative activists

I think 96/100 Senators spend most of their time out of the state that elected them due to the schedule of Congress.

We've explained it to hacks like Smash and daxwnman enough. I doubt either one of them would want to commute from Pittsburgh to Washington to work every morning, much less from Honolulu to Washington. Though I'm sure Senators Akaka and Inouye fly in every morning.
