Who I think it will be?  Emanuel.  Who I would like?  Biden.

Biden's actually a really good choice.  Dude's 73 but I get the sense he's still full of energy and ideas and not at all ready to retire yet.  Lord knows he has the connections and experience.  Jeff Bingaman would be another smart old guy choice.

What the dems really need is someone clever... another LBJ or Reagan-type figure who could outfox the Republicans.  Who are the clever Dems?  The only one I can think of is Harry Reid and he's obviously not going to do it.  Bill Clinton and Barack Obama also fit that category but won't take such a demotion.

Honestly I'm down with all the Dean love on this thread.  Just go ask Howard Dean who he'd like it to be and beg him to spend a year teaching that person everything he knows.

probably a chairman of one of the fast-growing state parties would be a good choice

FTR, I brought up Emanuel only because, in spite of his many, many, many faults, he still gets credit for the '06 wave.

Which is ironic in a way, because his strategy was quite different from Dean's in that he favored targeting key seats to win the House over the 50-state route.

After the DNC email leaks, it may be time for Martin O'Malley or Donna Brazile to be the new DNC chair. O'Malley would be good in that role. Howard Dean may not want to return to DNC politics.

I feel like the head of one of the state Democratic parties that have outperformed expectations, like Minnesota, Montana, maybe Arizona, or whomever would be a good choice.

O'malley couldn't even help his successor win in Maryland.  How's he gonna do hard stuff like defend Nevada or win Florida for the senate?

Honestly after he leaves office, Obama would be the best choice, but he deserves a long break from politics.

I can't think of that many democrats who really know how to win.  All the ones winning tough battles are blue dogs like manchin whom the base would throw a temper tantrum over.

Probably going to be some low key corporate rando who checks all the aesthetic boxes, so I'm guessing it'll be a black woman from the south.

Howard Dean should just become the permanent DNC chair for as long as he wants.

How about Jennifer Granholm? She would be good. As an Independent, I don't always agree with Granholm's politics, but she is very fiesty. Very, very feisty.

Robbie Mook is ideal. In all likelihood, it will be someone like Rahm Emanuel, Howard Dean, or Steven Grossman.

I can't see Emmanuel simply because the party is selling its soul to BLM and I can't see them supporting him

I want someone who has ties to the Sanders campaign. We have to make peace with them, make them a part of the Democratic operation, and make the party more in line with their ideas. Howard Dean, bless his heart, is now too connected to the Democratic leadership to make that kind of peace.

I'd give Bernie the reins on that choice, so long as it isn't someone like CORNEL WEST.

Maybe one of the ousted 2014 Senators?

Mark Begich?  Kay Hagan?  Mary Landrieu?

I'd like to see Howard Dean become chair of the Democratic National Committee again. He pioneered fundraising over the Internet, he created the 50-state strategy which led to Barack Obama's landslide win in 2008, and he's publicly denounced the recent emails leaked from the DNC.

I think he could definitely help the Democrats win future elections, both presidential and statewide.

I tentatively second your nomination, because he seems to really be sharp on that type of strategy, though I'm a little worried about how quickly the single-payer warrior I used to so admire became a handsomely paid lobbyist for health insurance companies.
