There are some white men (i.e., those who support Bernie in the primary) who don't support her now but will probably support her in the general regardless of what she does.

There are some white men who won't support her even if she mails every white man a check for $100.  These are mostly the same people who didn't support Obama in 12.

The question is flawed; indeed, if Hillary Clinton spends this election trying to improve her favorabilities, she will not succeed.  The only strategy that she should employ is to absolutely destroy Donald Trump's stature.  This is a "who do you hate more?" election and Clinton's campaign should not waste any time pretending otherwise.

Hillary is trailing Donald Trump by 30 points with white males in some swing states. She's doing worse than Obama with white males. She can't win if she's trailing Trump by this much with white males. She needs to a pick a white male VP in order to defeat Trump.

Lol.  No.  For example, if she picked Elizabeth Warren, it would easily placate the reservations of most Sanders supporters, and prevent many of them from sitting out the election or voting third party.

How do you think this works?  Women didn't vote for McCain just because he picked Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Well she will never win all white males but she can target subgroups within white males such as gays, non-christians (jews, muslims, buddists, athiests/agnostics), liberals, urbanites, youngs, unmarried. Basically micro-target enough subgroups so that her losses with white men as a whole isn't so bad. Each group will get different messages. 

Of course her biggest challenge with white men is getting liberal independent millennials (aka Bernie Bros) out to vote for her. This group will never like her but their fear/hatred of Trump could be enough. Also, deploying surrogates will help, like Sanders and Warren and possibly others, maybe some pop culture personalities as well.

She also has an opportunity with the college educated moderate suburban Republican-leaning white men (aka NeverTrump types). Again anti-Trump messaging will be key here to at least keep them from voting Trump.

Because of demographic trends, Hillary can do somewhat worse among white men, keep all other cohorts stable, and still win comfortably.  So she could potentially still win hemmorrhaging white men but with a strong democratic swing among women and latinos.  I wouldn't try it, but it might work.
