So it sounds like there is a majority in support of Nashville, so can we move on with that? As for the name, the only two options I've seen are Meridiem and Southern. Can we vote?

I can withdraw my suggestion if that doesn't cause a problem.

Leinad brought up a good point - "Southern" would be describes someone. Additionally, the region above us went with "North" instead of "Northern" so perhaps we should just go with South?

Are the BoR good to go? In that case, we need to finalize when elections will be and get this wrapped up? Unless we can get a quick consensus name for the legislature, I'd rather leave it as a placeholder and let the legislature determine its name. We have to leave something for them to do. Tongue

But yeah, we need to wrap this up. Ideally we should have our regional elections next weekend.

I guess everyone's in favor of "South," then? I kind of wished we could've came up with something more "interesting," but I suppose there is wisdom in simplicity. Sad

Are we all in favor of Nashville? I forgot to mention this earlier, but I looked at the map and registration statistics, and Atlanta is actually right around the center of current population (22/42, last I checked, are on Atlantic coast states--most of which are mostly east of Atlanta--while 20/42, last I checked, are in states mostly north of Georgia, with the other 22 in states level with or south of Georgia--i.e. mostly south of Atlanta). Then again, I would also be fine with Nashville.

Also, I don't believe we've officially decided the months for Gubernatorial elections. I would prefer Apr/Aug/Dec (yes, familiarity is a bad argument--that's why I listed two arguments for it Tongue) but I also see the rationale for Mar/Jul/Nov. Unless someone comes up with something else we should vote on, I suppose a principle vote is in order for Gubernatorial election months?

I understand your urgency, but we want to make sure we choose the correct time for future elections. I think we are set though on having the gubernatorial and assembly elections next weekend (if not sooner), so no need to worry! Smiley

The election is apparently going to be this weekend. As for gubernatorial afterwards, I agree on having a principle vote. For legislative, I think we can agree on every other month starting July.

I got distracted the elections admittedly, but I support NeverAgain's changes.

Also to quickly make one caveat to what I said before. As I stated the Federal gov't is necessary in terms of ensuring the resources are available, that said I am not against regional action on matters relating to social and healthcare policy.

For instance, the previous healthcare law was a masterpiece of balancing the two competing notions. The Federal gov't provided subsidies and offered a public option, with a few minimum regulations and left it up to the regions to define their healthcare system. For those regions who desired a defacto single payer, they could simply leave said public option as the only available choice and suppliment the subsidy further. Granted the loss of Scott at that critical point in the fall of 2014 left many regions with simplistic approaches and a great opportunity for regional creativity was lost, because his successors didn't place near as much interest in the matter.

On another note, I also support Nashville and South is fine for now. Likewise for the principle vote on subsequent elections.

Principle Vote

Question: when should we hold regular elections for Governor?

[ ] April, August, and December

[ ] January, May, and September

[ ] Write-In

Vote will last for 24 hours, or until all members have voted, or until a majority has voted for one option.

Since it looks like March/July/November will win, I think our constitution currently looks like what is below. At this point, I encourage everyone to read through all of it and see if you see any errors. Ideally it would be nice if we could finalize this ASAP and go ahead and hold elections this weekend. If it seems like it will take longer, I propose we pass a resolution stating that gubernatorial/legislative elections will happen this weekend and they will swear in once this constitution is finalized.

March, July, and November win, unless I've forgotten how to STV. Speaking of forgetting things...let's just say I was busy trying to plan my Presidency...

If it seems like it will take longer, I propose we pass a resolution stating that gubernatorial/legislative elections will happen this weekend and they will swear in once this constitution is finalized.

With the election to begin in 25 hours, 38 minutes, I second this. Any thirds?

Also, I encourage everyone (specifically Southerners, and especially Committee members) to go over that Constitution with a fine-toothed comb. I will do so myself multiple times before we finish this.

I'll third.

As for the Constitution, I viewed it over a few terms, and I think it's solid.

Well, I've obviously read through this a couple of times and think it looks good. A lot of the intricate parts were taken from old constitutions, so it has passed a lot of eye tests. There may be a tiny error in there, but I feel pretty confident there is no glaring error.

Just to clarify, the upcoming election should be ran by Leinad (your last one!!) and all relevant parts of the constitution relating to elections should be considered part of election law. Since we're still in the process of shaping this, I would recommend not having a deadline for declaring for office - whoever declares before the polls open is on the ballot. Does anyone object to that?

Unless there are objections or amendments, I will open up a final vote later tonight to approve the 1st Constitution of the South Region!

I'm fine with a final vote so that the newly elected officials can get things started right away. Only change I made was adding "any" in front of a clause that didn't make grammatical sense.
