Leinad for President!
Clear Leadership for the Future

Since you all can read the title, I'll cut the fake suspense: I am running for President of Atlasia in the upcoming June election.

Why am I running? Well, I agree with what Yankee said: the game will only last as long as there are people willing to play it. In case that sounds familiar, Truman used the same quote, but I'm not sure he understands what that means. I think we need to precisely define what "playing Atlasia" is. I believe that there are two key fundamentals of Atlasia: contesting elections and advancing issues. Therefore, I assure you that I will run an active campaign and be clear on the issues. I wouldn't expect to go far  otherwise. This is a campaign, and I am excited to have a conversation with Atlasians about the issues currently facing them and how we can best achieve our goals. I will make the case that I am the strongest candidate to achieve them.

In the coming days, I will release where we stand on the issues and offer a clear vision for what my administration will look like. The general theme of this campaign will be the concept of personal liberty. All people have the inherit equal right to live how they want to live, and it is government's role to ensure that, not restrain it. I believe in decentralized government which I advocated for throughout the Constitutional Convention – having strong regions is vital to a successful Atlasia.

This election is not just about our positions on various issues, but also about our experience and leadership capabilities. During my 8 months as Governor of the Southeast, I led a well-documented recovery in a region that desperately needed it. I played an instrumental role in the passage of our new constitution, both as delegate and Deputy Presiding Officer. I have experience, both executive and legislative, that makes me confident that I’m prepared for the job.

Atlasia is truly at a crossroads – how this election turns out will determine the direction this new era of Atlasia takes. It’s important that we take a direction of supporting individual liberty and the rights of regions. I am ready to hit the ground running, and look forward to making my case with citizens across Atlasia in the coming weeks.

The first step in leadership is to listen to the people you seek to represent. I want your thoughts and ideas on how we can better Atlasia. Please click here and share your ideas!

Thank you!

I have not long known Senator Leinad. Thankfully, I have had a chance to.. commensurate with him at the Ranch. I hope that Atlas will give this fine man a shot at the brass ring. I am most happy to offer him my endorsement. Long may we serve under Leinad.
Endorsed. It's leadership like yours we'll need in the transitional period.
Endorsed (former IDS Speaker from forever ago).

Thank you all for your endorsements! Cheesy

Welcome to the race - I look forward to a vigorous campaign!

Leinad making an announcement in San Francisco, California.

Hello everyone! I have a special announcement to make.

I cannot embark on this journey alone. What we're going to do is special and monumental, and I need to surround myself with experienced leaders to help get the job done.

The person I'm about to introduce you all to has a wealth of experience, including executive and legislative experience at both the regional and federal level.

I'm proud to introduce the next Vice President of Atlasia...Lumine! Take it away, my friend!

Speech from the Federalist Party Convention:

Hello, Nebraska! It's great to be here at the Federalist convention. This is the party that supports a common sense agenda of limited, responsible government and personal freedom--the most sustainable system of governance there is--and the party that supports cooperation with others, and a friendly, active environment to encourage the game's growth.

This is a tremendous chance for us to get a head start for the Federalist Party in this new era of Atlasia, to set the tone in policy. While the old era of Atlasia was known for leftist ideals, the new era can be known by our ideals. But only if we stay unified, campaign hard for this election, and turn out to VOTE!

If I'm President, I will stand for the rights of the individual to live their lives how they want, and oppose statism and collectivism. If I'm President, I will support policies to foster economic growth, raise wages, and get people back to work--not through government, but through the free market. If I'm President, I will be a friend of the regions, opposing federal overreach and supporting the mechanisms in place to retain the regions as the vital building blocks of our great Union.

If I'm President, the Federal Government will be, in addition to responsible and limited, active and effective. If I'm President, there will be cooperation and compromise in order to get things done, but I will never rubber stamp something I disagree with. We will go back to an Atlasia of lively debate over the issues, and competitive elections.

This is the ticket that can unify The Right Triangle--libertarians, conservatives, and moderates--and finally beat Labor. I ask you to join this effort, to help us win this election! As Henry David Thoreau said: "cast your whole vote, not a strip of paper merely"--or, in this case, a forum post--"but your whole influence."

Thank you!

More coming soon...

Thanks, RPryor! That's awesome!

Mr. Leinad, Mr. Lumine

Where do each of you stand on the issue of men who identify as women using the women's bathroom?

Where do each of you stand on the issue of women who identify as men using the men's bathroom?

I have no problem with that, and I feel like this is yet another case where people are wanting to control other people simply because they're doing things they don't personally like. And the rhetoric against it is not only absurd (that people who would rape someone in a bathroom would choose against that course of action if entering the bathroom is illegal--criminals, by definition, have no trouble with breaking laws) but is dangerously stirring up harmful anti-transgender sentiment.

The Leinad Economic Plan:
Lower Unemployment, Lower Taxes, Higher Wages

With Leinad as President, Atlasia will be open for business!

We need to get down to business here. Yes, pun intended, but that doesn't mean I'm not serious. Millions of Atlasians are out of a job--not only does this mean they struggle to provide for themselves and their family, but it creates an extra cost for Atlasian taxpayers to support them.

More government intervention is not the answer, the answer is taking less money out of the economy. Government is not the gas pedal for job creation, it's the brake pedal!

People put focus on raising the minimum wage--now, I have no plans to lower the minimum wage, but I don't feel raising it would do much good. Why? For one thing, to people without a job, the minimum wage is zero. For another, you don't make the pie any bigger by cutting it in larger slices. But government can do something to make the pie bigger: lowering corporate income taxes. Not to mention taking less of the pie from workers by lowering personal income taxes--something I will address shortly.

But I'm not a one-dimensional "lower taxes" guy. We can do other things to foster job growth, such as tax deductions for pay raises and hirings, and tax-free start-up investments. One of my major priorities will be to get Atlasians back to work, and I'll make sure we do so.

Also, I plan to simplify taxes, so the wealthy can't hire a team of lawyers and pay a lower rate than the middle class. This will help make up for the revenue losses due to tax cuts, and so will tax cuts themselves--if there's more money to pay people, people will be payed more. And if people are not only getting paid more but taxes are lowered, they have much more to spend, thus increasing sales tax revenues for government--plus revenue for businesses, plus adding demand for jobs--without increasing the rate.

And yes, I will decrease the tax on hard work--this is not only hurting the economy, but it's just plain wrong to take people's money.

If you vote for me, you will have a President that will side with your wallet against the government's bulging coffers, a President that will side with the free market over a centrally planned economy, and a President who recognizes that socialism is unsustainable, and who supports an economy that sustains itself!

Thank you!

Statement on Orlando Shooting:

Today is a day of pain, for all of Atlasia, but especially for members of the LGBTQ+ community. My sympathies go out to all those affected by this tragedy of hatred and violence.

It is the job of government to allow people to live safe and free. Millions of Atlasians, however, feel neither. It is our responsibility to repeal discriminatory laws, such as those regarding blood donations, and work to create a safer society. Problems such as violence and discrimination will never be stopped by government alone, but I do believe we can do a part, and that we should.

The debate has commenced!

My opening statement:

Thank you, Ted, and Smith, for hosting this debate!

This election is one of immense importance. Of course I would say that, given that I'm running, but I think it's objectively true. With the Constitutional Convention we saw a grassroots movement that silenced the doubters and made substantive improvements to Atlasia--all through the system set forth in the previous Constitution.

But the Convention is merely a prologue to the book we're about to write. Whoever wins this election will play a major part in setting the tone for the new era of Atlasia.

As my slogan implies, what we need is "Clear Leadership for the Future." We need efficient leadership, with experience in executive offices, knowledge of Atlasia's problems, the clear solutions for those problems, and the ability to make those solutions a reality for the future of Atlasia.

I've already released my economic plan, and as the election rolls closer I plan to release more policy plans, and I look forward to having this debate about the issues that face this country.

My answer's to Ted and Smith's questions:

Over the years since ISIS was formed, it has become a major threat to Atlasia and its people. The group even attacked several Atlasian cities before the new Constitution was passed. How would you address ISIS in your term as president?

I will start off by addressing the concept of military engagement: war is one of the worst things in humanity--a transaction of human lives and resources for destruction and instability. It is something we must avoid if possible, but unfortunately it is not always possible. The use of aggression is only justified if it is against a side which has committed aggression itself. And ISIL, as you said, has attacked Atlasia and I'm sad to say it will continue to do so--making self-defense not only just but needed.

We must support our allies in the region, and put as few Atlasians in harm's way as possible. We must have a clear strategy of defeating ISIL with minimal cost--both economic cost and, more importantly, human cost--both during and after the conflict.

I must say, I agree with Truman's assertion that we must ally with moderate Islam to defeat radical Islam. There are many peaceful Muslims -- we need to work with them to find and defeat the radical elements. We must attack terrorism at it's root instead of focusing on merely cutting the branches.

I believe in free trade and think that tariffs do little to improve anything. Instead, they restrict business at the cost of the consumer. These rates aren't magically absorbed by the business. Instead they're passed on to everyday Atlasians in the form of increased prices. The best way to keep jobs from leaving Atlasia and the best way to increase wages without increasing prices is to lower business taxes.

There are two keys to increasing activity as president:

For one thing, the president must be active personally. Both by providing updates in public, and by annoyingly nagging friendly reminding various government officeholders to stay active as well. While you can't single-handedly increase activity, it's the President's responsibility to do their part to ensure government is running smoothly, specifically the executive branch.

Also, we must identify inactive officeholders and work with regions to encourage activity across all of Atlasia, not to mention encouraging recruitment of the many active forum users not in the game. What makes Atlasia great is when regional governments are strong and successful - they provide a wonderful outlet for new members to get involved, eventually moving on to higher offices.

I understand that activity feeds on itself--an inactive game will lead to apathy, and thus decrease activity. An active game will act as a magnet for more people to join, and more people already here to be more active themselves. And this is not only activity while in office, but competitive and publically active campaigns, which I think Truman and I have both been working hard to do in this election. Smiley

Since I'm new, I'm still getting myself used to this. When is the election?
Anyway, I endorse Leinad!

The election will probably be next weekend: 24th-26th. Although the new Congress--which just convened for the first time--is yet to officially set the date.

Also, thanks! Smiley

The Leinad Criminal Justice Reform Plan:
Make Justice Just Again!

No President should be able to pass go without reforming our criminal justice system.

One of the biggest problems in Atlasia is our massive incarceration rate, a statistic that, per person, we lead the western world in. Not only does this impact millions of people, including breaking up families, but it costs the government a lot of money.

The job of the criminal justice system, and in many ways the government at large, is to keep people safe, and the best and most effective ways to do that involve an emphasis on rehabilitation over punishment and a focus on preventing real crimes.

The recidivism rates are too damn high! That signals that something is badly wrong. We need to incentivize prisons, both public and private, based on keeping recidivism rates down, instead of keeping incarceration rates high. This will put our prison system streets ahead in a single action.

If you elect me President, I will work with Congress to end the federal war on drugs. This does nothing but waste money--estimated at $50 billion annually--and put people in jail, without solving any of the problems. In fact, it creates the problem of fear: people are less likely to seek help if they're afraid of people calling the cops on them! Addiction and drug-related violence are major problems, but these problems can not be solved, and have not been solved, by government force.

Another thing we must do is eliminate the death penalty. The power to end a life--regardless of what that person has done--is far more power than anyone should be comfortable with government having. I approve of Senator Tmthforu94 and Representative NeverAgain for taking action on this and I plan to make it a reality.

And last but definitely not least, we must create a smarter police system. When I was South Governor, I worked with Speaker Haslam on the Criminal Justice Reform Act of 2016, a bill that heavily improved the police system, including establishing body cameras for police officers, protecting the right to peacefully protest, allowing people to record police situations and prosecuting officers who attempt to stop them from doing so, among other reforms. And one of the first bills I sponsored as Legislator was the Police Honesty Act, refined along with Darthebearnc, to keep police from lying to people.

If you elect me President, I will work with the regions and congress to enact serious change in our criminal justice system. We need a government, and a justice system. that works for the people, not against them!

Thank you--to those offering congratulations and continual gators (this thread should be renamed "fun with anagrams" Tongue), to those who offered advice along the way, and to everyone who voted for me! It's been over a year of Laborite victories for President, but today the people have spoken, and the ticket of Leinad and Lumine--best alliteration since Plant and Page--has validly, decisively, without any hint of illegitimacy received a mandate of the voting populace to lead Atlasia into this new era.

I also thank Truman and Kalwejt for not only their active campaign, but their histories of service to Atlasia. The more people like them who are active, the better Atlasia is for everyone.

More words from me will come, of course--don't act like you've gotten off with a three-paragraph speech and you're home free. For the coming days, weeks, and months, I will be busy as [insert your favorite expletive here] with Presidenting. The next 4 (at least) months will be awesome!
