This forum is basically Salon, now, whereas before it was the Young Turks.

No.  Those are just the loud voices who call out people.  The Republicans are far more conciliatory to Democrats here than vice versa (you can argue whether or not it's justified, but this is just a fact).  Overall, we're center-left, but not Salon level.  That trash defends pedophiles, which I don't think any of our leftists would.

I can't help but feel like the activity levels will implode in 2017 since there is no major election going on to stir up a frenzy of discussions

So, sure, we could easily get a ~25% drop in activity, but that's still way more posts than a normal human can read.

If anything the forum has lost its "left flank" (Tnf, tweed and Snowstalker) and a lot of the moderates and indies have polarised for or against Trump. The fact that most people here are quite sceptical of the sanders phenomena positions the forum to the right of an average group of Americans of the same demographics as well.

The most right-wing I've know this place to be was during the 2010 midterms, where you had a lot of respectable moderates supporting fairly hard right Republicans. Despite the likes of O'Donnell, Angle, Joe Miller etc running for the Senate, the Republican Party didn't get quite the bashing that it does now.

If anyone isn't comfortable with hearing other people's opinions, they shouldn't ever talk to anyone. The point of this forum is to engage in discussion and debate. Debate meaning you need multiple opinions. If you're mad at there being too much of another opinion, why'd you come here in the first place?

You don't have to like other people's opinions, you just should be able to tolerate those opinions' existence.
