Oh, you're real edgy little boy.  Don't worry though, the military wouldn't take the likes of you, so you have nothing to worry about.
I doubt you'd go, chickenhawk.

You do realize that thousands of Americans did go, right?  It was an honorable thing that the vast majority of those drafted did.  Ali let others die in his place. We don't have a draft today, but I'm quite comfortable with myself, don't worry.

If my uncle had dodged that draft, he would still be alive today.  He ended up "taking someone's place."  I don't hold anything against anyone who wants to remove themselves from that fate.  I do think it's abhorrent that certain people had an easier time escaping the draft than others, but that's the natural outcome of war and requiring people to fight in them.

I am not a pacifist to be "edgy."  Disagree with me as you please, but of all the reasons I'm against war, an irrational hatred for the soldiers or for the country is not one of them.

Oh for God's sake. Draft-dodging isn't always and only A Good Act or always and only A Bad Act. The reasons why somebody does it are at least a little relevant, don't we think? Anyway, Ali's reasons for doing it were very good. Massive FF.

Massive FF.

To comment on his boxing for a moment:  I had not heard that Ali claimed Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter of all time, but it doesn't surprise me.  First of all, I think that assessment is correct.  Secondly, at least in the '60's, Ali was the only person ever who was fast and instinctive enough to do a Ray Robinson boxing imitation as a heavyweight.  His knockouts of Liston, Terrell and Williams were right up their with Robinson's greatest performances.  And then, in the '70's, when he came down off his toes and went mostly flatfooted with his opponents, he, with an iron chin, unmatched heart and a half-ways decent punch himself, fought like a lion with the very best of heavyweights and came out ultimately on top.  I'd place him as the second-greatest heavyweight champion ever, behind Joe Louis, but Ali's competition over his two decades as champion was on average far better than Louis' competition over the same period.

Muhammad Ali wasn't even really a draft dodger. A more accurate term would be "draft resistor".

Completely agree, also I'm unwilling to condemn draft dodgers, when we look at people like George Bush's behaviour under the Vietnam War.
