This is the battle of the bad movies.  Which one do you vote for?  Which one wins?  What does the map look like?

By the way, assume that _Scary Movie 2_ is Democratic and _2001: A Space Odyssey_ is Republican when doing the maps.

In this race, I'd vote third party.  If either of the two main candidates were to win, I'd leave the country.  But if forced to vote for one of the two main candidates, I'd vote for _Scary Movie 2_.  It wasn't quite as bad as _2001: A Space Odyssey_.  At least _Scary Movie 2_ had a few good moments and didn't make you stare at a spaceship floating in space for 20 minutes straight.  _2001: A Space Odyssey_ was 3 hours of uninterrupted boredom.  I think this movie was shown round-the-clock at Abu Gharaib prison.

_Scary Movie 2_ wins in a landslide.  The map:

_Scary Movie 2_ wins with 411 electoral votes.

Yes, _Scary Movie 2_ was an awful movie.  The action was missing for most of the movie, the plot moved too slowly, and the connection to the original was tenuous.  There were some funny moments at the end (like the _Titanic_ parody), if you didn't give up out of frustration.  But the bad VASTLY outweighed the good.

But _2001: A Space Odyssey_ made _Scary Movie 2_ look like a masterpiece in comparison.  There was NO real plot.  The computer had more acting ability than all the human characters combined.  In fact, I've seen a low-budget porn film with better acting and character development.  _2001: A Space Odyssey_ moves at a pace dead people would find too slow.  There's 20 minutes of staring at the outside of a spaceship, 20 minutes of staring at the inside of a spaceship, 20 minutes of staring at some lame colored lights, 20 minutes of staring at a man SSSLLLOOOWWWLLLYYY take a bite of his food, and an ending that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

People only like _2001: A Space Odyssey_ if they are drunk or stoned.  They only claim to like it so they can look smart.  After all, anyone who hates this overhyped movie must be redneck trailer trash.

_2001: A Space Odyssey_ wins in California because of support from stoned voters, the support of the Governator, and the influence of Stanford, Caltech, and UC Berkeley.  You look REALLY bad in the eyes of these schools and alumni and students from there if you hate _2001: A Space Odyssey_.  The Governator labels anyone who hates _2001: A Space Odyssey_ as an intellectual girlie man.

_2001: A Space Odyssey_ wins in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.  New York City has parents trying to get their kids into Ivy League PRE-SCHOOLS.  New Jersey people like _2001: A Space Odyssey_ because they think claiming to like it will impress Princeton University alumni and because they want to go to space to get away from the stench in the air, the famous New Jersey smell.  (Just drive into the state from Pennsylvania from the Turnpike.)  The Space Ignominy wins in Connecticut because of Martha Stewart's endorsement and because people want to impress Yale graduates.  The Space Ignominy wins in Rhode Island because of Brown University's endorsement.  The Space Ignominy also wins in Massachusetts, because it's not hip to look dumb in the home state of Harvard and MIT.

_Scary Movie 2_ wins in Alaska and the Rocky Mountain states, even Utah because of the ad saying "Stanley Kubrick's ghost wants to put you to sleep so he can sneak in and take your guns away!"  _Scary Movie 2_ wins the Great Plains because of the ad saying "_2001: A Space Odyssey_ is so boring it makes your landscape seem exciting in comparison."

_Scary Movie 2_ wins in the South, because people who hate the Space Ignominy are considered rednecks, and Southerners consider that a badge of honor.  For the same reason, _Scary Movie 2_ wins big in all of Appalachia.  Dan Quayle's endorsement makes Indiana the strongest state for _Scary Movie 2_.

What the ?

2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic, the gold standard by which movies should be judged. The music, the editing, and the storyline are amazing.

The main problem with 2001 is that people with short attention spans think it should have been a 10 minute short subject.  There is no way the movie could be made in today's hyperkinetic media environment which is a real shame.

I agree. I didn't appreciate it until I watched it a few times and set it back from the movies of today.

If you can't appreciate Kubrick, my condolences.

That said, I didn't really like it that much when I saw it--I've been wanting to watch it again for a while.

I saw 2001 a couple years ago to write a paper, and I enjoyed it. Admittedly at some points I was like "ok, move it along" - mainly at the points where it seemed they were just showing off special effects and not moving along the plot.
