Welcome to Atlasia!

Atlasia is a government/elections game simulating the politics of a federal representative democracy, the "Republic of Atlasia". Players take part in shaping the nature and laws of Atlasia by voting in elections, running for public office, and serving in a variety of positions in the regional and national governments.

Government
Atlasia is a federal state consisting of three regions. The federal government is composed of three branches: executive (the President and Cabinet), legislative (a bicameral Congress), and judicial (the Supreme Court). Elections to the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives are held at regular intervals.

Citizens of each region may participate in the regional government by serving in the regional government or by lobbying for legislation at the regional level. Each region has its own constitution mandating the structure and powers of the regional government.

A map of the Republic of Atlasia, showing the boundaries and constituent states of the regions, can be seen below.

Fig. 1  Map of the Republic of Atlasia. The states in green comprise Lincoln; the states in blue comprise the Southern Region; the states in brown comprise Fremont.

History
The Republic of Atlasia was founded in February 2004 as the official successor to the United States of America. The first president of the republic, Eric Nyman, was chosen in an election held from February 20 to February 22, 2004. The republic's first constitution was adopted two months later. In time, the collapse of the Republican and Democratic parties led to the rise of uniquely Atlasian political entities, such as the National Liberal Coalition, the Jesus Christ Party, and the Regional Protection Party.

Atlasia's fourth and current constitution was adopted in May 2016 following a bipartisan effort to reform and restructure the federal system. As part of a general effort to revitalize the republic, the constitution replaced the original five regions (Northeast, Mideast, South, Midwest, and Pacific) with a consolidated three region map, established a bicameral Congress to replace the unicameral Senate, and granted greater autonomy to the regional governments.

If you want to learn more about the laws and history of Atlasia, you can check out the Library of Congress, where can be found the official copy of the federal Constitution, a complete list of all laws and executive orders in effect, and other information about Atlasia's past and present.

Parties
Numerous parties exist in Atlasia, representing a wide array of ideologies. Many parties have an official platform, elect a party leadership, and run candidates in national and regional elections. A brief summary of the ideology of the major parties can be found here. Players can also choose to participate in the game without joining a party.

Registration
Joining Atlasia is easy: simply list your username, state, and party preference (if any) in the New Register Thread, located here. You can register in any of the 50 real-life states, Puerto Rico, or the nation's capitol, Nyman (real-life Washington D.C., renamed after Atlasia's first president). Under the terms of the Atlasian-British Common Market Agreement, citizens may also choose to register in England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. Here's an example:

In order to join, your account must be at least 168 hours (i.e. precisely 7 days) old.

Board Organization
When first joining, you may be confused as to what the different boards are. The board structure looks something like this (as of November 4, 2016):

Atlas Fantasy Elections is the most important board and the board you will most likely end up spending most of your time on. It covers all miscellaneous chat between citizens, who post threads such as political party headquarters, conventions, newspapers, offices for politicians, and so on. Feel free to introduce yourself here in this thread, or create a thread introducing yourself on your own.

Child Board: The Voting Booth is where the Secretary of Federal Elections and regional officials open elections for federal and regional office, as well as public referendums, recall elections, and other important matters.

Atlas Fantasy Government is the headquarters of the national government. The President, Cabinet, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court all conduct business here. Unless you're a federal lawmaker, you probably won't have much cause to post here, but you can always drop in to see what your representatives on Capitol Hill are up to.

Child Board: The Constitutional Convention board is a temporary board that was most recently used to draft the Fourth Constitution of the Republic of Atlasia. It is currently defunct.

Child Board: The Regional Governments board is home to the governments of each of the three regions.

List of Political Parties

ALLIANCE
8 Members                                        Chair: None

"Alliance is an ideologically-neutral party that aims to set a higher standard for Atlasian politics. Our members are fed up with current party rule, one-party-state dynamics, and inactivity and high-turnover rates that are a trademark of our current system. A political system where parties bully each other over petty politics isn’t a more welcoming Atlasia, it’s a dysfunctional and toxic political environment. Our members, and Atlasia, deserve a party that in its rules guarantees it will not fight for itself, but fight for its country. This party will serve as the catalyst for a united alliance of liberals, centrists, and conservatives for change.
"

FEDERALIST PARTY
61 Members                                        Chair: North Carolina Yankee

"The Federalist Party believes that individuals, not the government, can make the best decisions. We stand for a federalist system of government built on strong checks and balances to protect people from tyranny. We therefore stand for the rights of regions, and oppose attempts by the federal government to infringe on their rights. We stand for reforms that strengthen and revitalize regions, as well as the game as a whole. We believe that all individuals are equal and entitled to equal rights, with a government strong enough to protect freedom, but too weak to jeopardize it. We stand for market based economic approaches to promote general prosperity and, in conjuction with policies to strengthen hard working families and improve education, address societal ills, like pressing economic inequalities. The Federalist Party stands for an Atlasia that welcomes participants, both new and old, and values their contributions to the game."

LABOR PARTY
18 Members                                        Chair: Sestak

PROGRESSIVE UNION PARTY
62 Members                                        Chair: None

PEACE PARTY
16 Members                                        Chair: Scott

"Do you want a party that you can trust to support peaceful solutions both at home and abroad? Are you a dove or a communitarian? Are you tired of big tent parties with no coherent ideology or principles? Then the Peace Party welcomes you! ...The Peace Party is a place of support for all doves and communitarians that want to stand together against the Nyman Consensus on foreign policy aggression and intervention. The Peace Party is a party for those that want a slate of doves and communitarians."

Great to see an updated version of this!

Suggestion: clarification of the region's names so people know what the heck "Fremont" is.

Do you plan to leave off the Chairman and Party size from the Party list? Both were constant fixtures in previous intros. At least include the former, that way if new member have questions they can PM the Chairman.

I recall a few who in fact contacted me in such manner.

Has the South chosen an official name yet? I can add all three to the map if so.

Why do we need two different blurbs for the Labor and Federalist Parties? They both believe the same things, as we know. Tongue

Yes. Just have a blurb called "Politics of Atlasia" that's a description of the Labor platform, since that's obviously what everyone supports /s

List of Political Parties

CIVIC RENEWAL
10 Members                                        Chairman: Cris

"[Civic Renewal is] a center-right party that aims to bring much needed change and pursue an invigoration of the political system and the revival of the center right, without pretending to be a sole party for all the forces of the right... I’d like to see this party as one that will not shy away from thinking outside the box, one that will do its best to welcome new players into the game, one bold enough to take a strong stand for the foreign policy of the nation and its defense sector, one that defends such crucial bases of our society like the free market, the rule of law and our threatened environment, one that tries to build policies of their own and step outside of the idea that only left wing legislation can pass in Atlasia, a party with a strong sense of responsibility and discipline capable of governing in an efficient way."

FEDERALIST-LABOR PARTY
93 Members                                        Chairmen: North Carolina Yankee & Blair2015

"Something something they're basically the same party."

Other Parties
Arizona Is A Free Nation And Not A Part Of Atlasia Party
5 Members                                        Chairman: None
Democratic Republican Party
4 Members                                        Chairman: None
Fixed considering Labor and Federalists are the same thing.

Exactly. It doesn't help that both parties are increasingly dominated by 'moderate heroes' like Evergreen and Classic Conservative who could easily fit into the opposite party.

Ben Kenobi actually approached me about joining something, and I assumed it was the Federalists. I said no, and he didn't clarify himself. So I guess he's had the idea that Feds and Labor are one and the same for a while.

It must be, I'm not sure if we actually pulled out of it.

I'm 99% sure it was wiped in the reset.

Me and Secretary Truman will be working with the government in Canada to make a new agreement, along with a similar one with the United Kingdom.
