...the party is so irretrievably divided right now that I can't envision anyone getting over 50%. Whoever did it would use the power of correct timing after the convention was exhausted and luck. Good luck predicting it.

Lol. There would be an all-out brawl lasting three days before Reince Priebus would come out, declare there's no nominee and the convention was over before flying away in a helicopter from the rooftop as the angry mob descends on the stage.

There is an increase in chat and discussion (once again) about trying to do something .... anything to stop trump from getting the nomination at the convention.
Will there actually be an attempt ?
And, is it possible for it to succeed ?

When the GOP and Democratic funding base form a new political party by divine fiat (let's call them the Whig Party for lack of a better term) who do they nominate in 2020?  My bet is on Ryan/O'Malley.
