So Lyndon, are you saying that any violence not motivated by Islam isn't terrorism? When did you become an Islamaphobe?

Take a hike kid.

You and I both know what this thread would look like if the shooter was some white dude named Timothy Johnson from Alabama.

Unfortunately yes. There are already Republicans out there trying to exploit the situation.
Oh and calling for gun control isn't?

The Chairman of the Intelligence Committee says that it is likely terrorism and its just like the shooting at the theatre in Paris
Not really
How not? Similar venue, similar targets (Paris=western decadence at a concert, Orlando=homosexuals), and similar perpetrators. The difference is that this was home grown, not orchestrated from Syria.

Has it actually been confirmed that the guy is a Muslim?
Yes. It's also been reported by Congressman Adam Schiff (D-WA) that he apparently took a pledge of loyalty to the Islamic State.

He was 29, US born, from New York and by the pictures of his home, was well off (he was married); several cars in the drive and it was noted that he may had owned other properties.
Probably got the house cheap. Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie are the foreclosure capitals of the state.

Terror Watch List suspects are not criminals. They haven't been convicted of a crime. They might not even have done anything to get on the list other than follow a friend on Twitter who became radicalized. Their rights should be protected like that of any other citizen until they lose those rights in a court of law.

This wasn't "just another mass shooting" and the victims were not just statistics-they were people. They had memories, friends, relatives, and lives, and this savage took that from them in the name of his evil and perverted vision of Islam. Omar Mateen did not wake up this morning to find his AR-15 sitting by the side of the bed telling him to do it. He did this, not the gun. Had he not had a gun, he'd have had probably spent more time on his explosive device, why thankfully failed in this attack. Had he not had a bomb, he could of ran down a Gay Pride parade in his car.

3,000 people died on 9/11 and not a single shot was fired by the terrorists.

Take it! It's a opportunity to sell attacks on LGBT as an attack on "Us" and our values.

Let's avoid leaping to conclusions and joining dots that may very well not be there until we know more. Right now we know really very little and a lot of false rumours often spread themselves about after this kind of crime. I mean other than that this is an appalling atrocity and that clearly the man responsible did not particularly like gay men. We can be pretty sure of those things.

Maybe he was an Islamist, maybe he wasn't. If he was it doesn't mean he was necessarily a member of a larger organisation. If he was it doesn't mean it worse than if he wasn't.

Looks like the mayor is walking it back now.   Then again it wouldn't surprise me they want to dampen things now.    I fully expect for Obama to say nothing about the Islamic part and talk about gun control. Then claim this was workplace violence or a domestic hate crime.

Gun control didn't stop the Paris attacks, or the brussels attacks. This was islamic terrorism, again and again and again.  Lets not pussyfoot the issue.

I.e. the fact that Brevik (for instance) was a one-man Neo-Nazi cell doesn't make what he did any better than if he had been a member of an actual Neo-Nazi organisation with a hierarchy and a membership list. Let's avoid thinking like securocrats, hmm...?

I don't want to get into political arguments over this, but France's domestic terrorism problem (which is mostly an Islamist thing if not exclusively) would be even worse were access to firearms (that aren't used to shoot songbirds) easier.

I could cry right now, and I don't even know when the last time I cried was. A hate crime and an ISIS attack all rolled into one. NBC News is reporting that police in LA have foiled a mass shooting/bombing plot at the LA Pride Festival.

It goes to show you that Obergefell wasn't the end of discrimination against the gay community, as some have said. But here we go again with the right wing's hollow "thoughts and prayers" routine.

The reactionary right don't specifically care about the LGBT part of this crime. We don't need to be collateral in their chest beating.

Worst mass shooting in history, and all you people are saying is "Eh, coulda been worse"

Get over yourselves. If he wanted it to be worse, he would've made it worse under the current conditions.

It's unlikely that he was a member of a larger organisation, he fit the profile of self radicalised Islamist solo terrorists. They usual declare their allegiance to the most high profile Islamist terror organisation before they commit their act of terror. But they're unlikely to have been contact with the organisation (at most they have been in contact with non-terrorist radicals) and they select the target on their own.

Too call this a simple hate crime is weak.   This is terrorism on level of 9/11 or Paris.

Żes, and anybody who says otherwise is wrong.

The secularists want to rewrite history to make us (the West) into something that we are not. The Islamists don't feel that way - they see us as we've always been. They don't hate us because we're free, they hate us because they see us as decadent Christians. We are in a religious war, not against all Muslims, but against a faction of them who will not rest until they avenge their loss at the Battle of Tours, and perhaps not even then.

Obama didnt mention radical Islam not once.  He talked about guns instead.   I swear i wonder is this president sympathetic to this faction of Muslims.

He didn't or couldn't utter the words " radical Islam" .. unbelievable.

They hate us because we're gay. We're in a war against people with positive social scores on the PM, no matter what religion they follow.

The increase hostility toward Islam in Denmark have resulted in anti-homosexual comments have almost become completely unacceptable even from the unpleasant right. LGBT rights have become integrated as part of the Danish values packet. The LGBT movemet shouldn't let the reactionary right get all the points from this tragedy, they should use it to beat people like Lt. Gov. of Texas in the head with, how he sides with anti-American anti-Christian Islamic terrorists against the American values of tolerance.

Wow. This guy is calling out pretty much every Republican who tweets their "prayers" and "condolences" yet takes money from the NRA. It's a very long list.

I guess Obama doesn't watch the news. If he did he would know that the shooter pledged his allegiance to ISIS and had been on terror watch lists in the past. What the hell does he mean we don't know what motive, if any?  It couldn't be any more obvious.

A similar pattern applies to far right terrorism of course (not just Brevik but also e.g. David Copeland or all the sad losers that still get arrested in every six months or so here after trying to buy explosives on the internet).
