It is a crime against homosexual men, USA, freedom, you name it.

Whether or not you can extrapolate that to something that would be inspired by ISIS or a terrorist motive is difficult to say.

Seems likely, but too early to say.

After the Paris nightclub attack, it appears the shooter had a fair amount of knowledge of how these things go down.

Killing 50 men and wounding 50 more is a lot to actual shooting, and this would have taken quite some time to plan and execute.

At this stage, I cant help but feel for so many families in grief at the moment.

This is such an enormous waste of life.

The number of dead will increase beyond 50.

53 in serious condition in hospital.

Just insane.

Looks like this guy had sympathies towards ISIS.

"Florida Sen. Bill Nelson later said that information from intelligence sources indicated there "appears to be a link to Islamic radicalism ... some kind of connection to ISIS."

The media on TV just said a Florida Democrat said he was sympathetic towards ISIS

This kind of hatred towards gays usually comes from religious fundamentalism.

It's even more confused in Afghani culture.

Homosexuality is illegal, often punishable by certain death. It is interpreted together with prostitution and paedophilia.

From Wikipedia:

However, sexual assault of young boys who are kidnapped to act as sexual slaves for adult men is tolerated, typically in a militia, or when an adult man buys sexual favors from young boys with money or gifts.

These paedophile activities are tolerated within Afghan culture because they are not perceived as being an expression of an LGBT-identity, but rather an expression of male power and dominance; as the boy in these situations is forced to assume the "female" role in the relationship.

That is just wrong.

Clearly, this person, Omar Mateen, had a sense of hate towards homosexual men.

From someone outside the USA:

This is the gun Omar Mateen used to massacre 50 people.

An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Why are you selling these semi-automatic guns to people on a terrorist watchlist?

Omar Mateen was interviewed by the FBI about friends on an ISIS training watch-list from Syria.

How is it this person owns a fire-arm at all?

That is simply not a gun that a person in Orlando needs, especially a mentally ill homophobe who sympathises with ISIS.

Information seemingly readily available from his history.

What basis is there for assuming that Mateen is mentally ill other than the fact that he killed fifty people? Am I missing something or is it just being deployed as a standard part of The Script?

His former wife, who left him in 2011 fearing for her life, said he was a violently abusive man who wanted to be a police officer.

"He was not a stable person," she said.

"He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn't finished or something like that."

In a separate interview with The Washington Post Ms Yusufiy, who left the suspect in 2011, said he was violently abusive.

He was a few Mb short of a Gb.

Nathan,

I understand your argument, and no he isn't legally 'mentally ill'.

I am just saying he's a few french fries short of a happy meal.

It looks as though he was not treated or prosecuted for domestic battery which would have helped to prevent this massacre.

Taliban were not existing yet when they immigrated and their ancestor was CIA-backed (to fight against USSR). So, no, you are again totally missing the point.

No. He was a radical back then, and a radical now.

When he emigated to the USA, the USA was pro-Taliban.

Remember this:

Watch carefully, but Rambo was fighting with the Taliban against the Russians.

Never thought Rambo III would be used as evidence in an intellectual political discussion.

Thanks,

Some good replies there.

And yes, i understand nothing of a US citizens rights under these circumstances.

One thing we can agree on. The extensive rights and freedoms afforded to US citizens have been grossly abused and taken advantage by a member of society who does not share the basic spirit of a free people.

Shooter's Dad, Seddique Mateen, makes new anti-gay video two days after massacre.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/06/13/orlando-nightclub-shooters-dad-condemns-homosexuality-in-new-video.html?intcmp=hpbt1

He wants to be the President of Afghanistan in the USA.

I think we have found the source of the problem.

From CBSNews.com

"The Orlando gay club gunman's father has well-known anti-American views and is an ideological supporter of the Afghan Taliban."

"In his Facebook videos, the alleged gunman's father has often appeared wearing a military uniform and declaring himself the leader of a "transitional revolutionary government" of Afghanistan. He claims to have his own intelligence agency and close ties to the U.S. Congress -- assets he says he will use to subvert Pakistani influence and take control of Afghanistan.

After watching his videos -- none of which were recorded in English -- CBS News' Ahmad Mukhtar said it seemed possible that Seddique Mateen is delusional. "He thinks he runs a government in exile and will soon take the power in Kabul in a revolution," notes Mukhtar."
