It seems like whenever a sitting governor gets any news coverage, it is usually a Republican. The most recent ones (as far I can remember) are Rob Bentley, Rick Snyder, Susana Martinez, and Terry McAuliffe. Out of the four mentioned, only one is a Democrat.

Republican governors get more news coverage because there are far more Republican governors.

Most of the current Democratic governors are quiet, just-do-the-job types that are never going to run for President or are involved in major controversies.

John Hickenlooper, Mark Dayton, Jack Markell, Jay Inslee, Tom Wolf, Earl Ray Tomblin, Steve Bullock, ect. are all very boring people.

Don't forget Jerry Brown, Kate Brown from Oregon, Dan Malloy, John Bel Edwards and a couple of others. They also stay out of the limelight (except maybe Jerry Brown by virtue of governing the largest state).

JBE and Kate Brown just took office, and Jerry Brown gets a decent amount of press. But Dan Malloy fits.

Do you mean in national media?  I think most governors get a lot of coverage in their own state.  They don't get covered outside their state because not many people care about politics in other states.  They only get covered by national media if there's some crisis, scandal or if there's an issue that can be sensationalized to piss a bunch of people off because that's how the national media makes money.  Republican governors are probably more likely to do things that the media can sensationalize.

Yes, I meant in the national media. Sorry for forgetting to specify that.

And they are probably going to receive more news coverage thanks to Trump this year.
