How can you post this and then CONSTANTLY advocate for Republicans with this and similar outlooks to leave the party for fear of being lumped in with far right crazies and being "complicit" in their every move and statement?
It's completely contradictory.
Because the GOP is unwilling to make the hard choice of having its own Sistah Souljah moment and unequivocally rejecting the reactionary elements of its voter base. Instead, they disrespect the country as a whole by pandering shamelessly to this bloc, and then they disrespect those voters themselves by not even following through on anything they promise them. That is why Donald Trump is your candidate.
I personally would prefer to see a GOP that was essentially the American version of the British Conservative Party - no required position on abortion, acceptance of things like evolution and climate change. People who think the government should tacitly endorse LGBT discrimination because it's in The Bible would ideally be relegated to the fringes of the political landscape and have no major party attempting to win their votes.
But that would require making the kind of changes the GOP hasn't proven it is willing to do.
Putting it another way, if 40-50% of your party are racist, bigoted Trumpkins, why don't you try to bring new people into the GOP to ensure that the Trumpkins are handily outnumbered? Maybe it's because you would have to be more welcoming to people who don't care all that much about abortion and don't think the EPA is an existential threat to their personal liberties.
You're conflating two different parts of the Republican coalition here.
The idea that Trumpkins care about abortion/gay marriage much is pretty amusing. Of all the candidates, his supporters are probably some of the most socially liberal when it comes to the traditional "culture war" issues on the GOP side of the ledger. Also, the problem with Indy Texas's proposal is that there are too many people who are "bigots/fundamentalists" (in his worldview) in the United States for the GOP to successfully pull off being like the British Conservatives. Our version of UKIP could be just as big as the GOP in that instance thanks to so many Trump supporters and Evangelicals ditching the party.
