Will Congress listen to the people? Or will it be business as usual with nothing getting done to address these issues?

Will the will of the NRA continue to rear its ugly head?

No. Yes. Yes. And the answers to those three questions will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

So what's it gonna take for change to occur? I have no clue.

Neither do I. Broad campaign finance reform or the people starting an initiative are really the only two ways I see anything getting done, but the likeliness of either of those happening is next to none.

Maybe that's part of the problem, which is that we don't think things can change.

It's gonna take a fresh perspective on our situation that offers something real that we can do to address the issue of guns and all these senseless killings.

So where will that fresh perspective come from? I think the filibuster in Congress that is going on now is a start. Bringing attention to the issue of Congress's inaction during these countless mass-shooting atrocities is shining a light on the problem. Maybe that voice will continue to get stronger with each passing day until the American people's voice is finally heard.

Maybe if Hillary becomes President she will get something accomplished in that arena. One can only hope.

Well yeah.  If you show an AR-15 to the average person and asked them whether they should be available for sale to anyone they would obviously say no.  Our lobbyists and government are crazy.  That doesn't mean the average American is crazy.

No, it will take 150 people being shot in one day to get things changed.

If one ISIS nutcase can get 49, then logically three guys with AR-15's can kill 150 before the cavalry arrives.

Over 90% supported background checks in just about every poll after Sandy Hook.

Look where that got us.

Obviously banning guns isn't going to work. It only makes the gun manufacturers very happy when scared people run in and clean out the gun stores.

So why not just repeal all gun laws and let's declare open territory. Anyone can carry a gun, anywhere, anytime. Anyone can buy a gun -- even children -- and anyone can use a gun to defend their honor. I mean, it's your honor for crying out loud.

Let's put guns in all schools and all churches, heck, let's even put guns in grocery stores for purchase.

We need to think outside the box on this. If you can't beat them then join them, right?

This is the most uninformed post I've ever seen.

1) You don't know WHERE most people are shot
2) You don't know what an AR-15 is, clearly
3) You don't know what type of gun is used for most gun crime (which is at a low, BTW)

Clearly if a majority of people support it, they must understand what they are voting on.

I was wondering how long it would take for somebody to allude to the fact that the AWB is a terribly pointless piece of legislation. If the NRA had any sense, they'd come out in favor just to mess with people's heads.

You could literally put a laser scope and a pistol grip on a musket and it would be considered an assault weapon in some of the more gun-unfriendly states

The LOLbertarian would obviously not know that the average AR-15 gun holds twenty bullets in the magazine. Obviously, since twenty times fifteen is 300, divided by two, we get 150. Stupid LOLbertarians can't even do math.

Lets suppose this ban is enacted.

1. Who enforces it?

2. You do realize that there are millions of ARs out there right now ?

3.  follow-up to#1 ..how is it enforced?

4.  Most cops ( know personally are pro 2A) and will not comply with any act they deem unconstitutional just like they didn't with the 1994 ban.  What, now is the FBI and ATF going to go ruby ridge on everybody?    Great instead of mass shootings every year we will hear about stand-offs with American families every day.

An assault weapons ban was implemented in this country quite recently and it worked no problem.

The way we can tell gun fetishists are lying is they claim it is impossible to do things that we already did a couple of decades ago.  We know no matter how easy, constitutional, and common sense something is gun fetishists will back solve to the solution, Guns for everyone!!!

The number of gun crimes with so-called "assault weapons" was already low. Most gun crimes are with handguns. It barely made a dent in overall gun crime, even if it appeared to when crime dropped once gun control became LOOSER in several states.

The amount of non-military families that possess automatic weaponry is extraordinarily low.

I say non-military because there's a distinction - soldiers have been trained in how to use these weapons extensively. Your average backwoods fat hick hasn't.

But why are assault weapons legal in the first place? What on earth purpose do they serve? Jesus Christ, why do people -- probably 99% men -- have to have an assault rifle, ever, except to fight in war?

As a female, I will never understand or approve of the mindset that thinks it needs a weapon of mass destruction for any reason other than that our country is at war.

Yes. What does that have to do with this topic though?

Can you stop?  We don't have to know every technical term about guns to know which ones need banning, any more than your side needs to fully understand the Qur'an to know you want its followers banned.

This comparison is valid.  But that makes me very confused about how you see your own position Huh

Civilian purchase of assault rifles has been heavily restricted since 1934. Whether or not people need such things, most people don't have them and can't afford them.

It reminds me of Carolyn Maloney wanting to ban "shoulder things that go up". These threads are hilarious, because the gun control crowd proves consistently that they know nothing about what they're trying to ban.
