Hoax. There was a burst water main that cut off water temporarily. COGAT's civil administration team went to work repairing it and it's back up and running. The time it was down was long enough to cook up this story and spread it around the world where it'll be used to motivate the killing of Jews for months to come.

I love your timing Cheesy
https://twitter.com/Yair_Rosenberg/status/743219599337005057 Here's a video of the burst pipe.

This is where Israel fails at: public relations. Why was I only able to find this on twitter? And of course, AJ, RT, the independent and the other usual anti-israel crapholes "update" their articles with this and then refuse to change the article title.

Perhaps that's why he didn't want us reading the comments?  Or were they typically anti-Semitic and he was rightfully embarrassed by it? (I haven't bothered to read it yet, have to go back to work 5 minutes ago)

Either way, good job falling for Palywood a.scott!  (do you hope to be the.scott some day?)

Sad to see such rampant anti-antisemitism on atlas.

Well, as Sunrise said, it's very hard to find denials (they are usually written in Hebrew only), so that allow those to go uncontested (and even a neutral person, if it see no denial on the other side, will tend to believe it's true).

Pro-Israeli people need to step up their game if they want to win the public relations war.

Before the Zionists here get too pleased with themselves over having exposed this hoax, they ought to consider this one little problem that made this particular hoax possible in the first place. Why are the Palestinians of the West Bank not in control of their own water supply in the first place? The PA has been around long enuf that this is something that should have been placed under their control well before now.

Besides being the right thing to have done in its own right, doing so would also provide more Palestinians with jobs who would thus be less likely to engage in or support violent extremists. Even if Israel never does give up its control of the entire West Bank, whether by choice or circumstances, it is in Israel's own self interest to do all it can to keep things quiet.

Do you guys ever realize that the reason people automatically believe Israel would do something like this is because Israel has proven before that they'll do things such as this?

Also, Ernest, "provide more jobs to palestinians"? You mean like what SodaStream did? BDS still protested against it. We can't win against you hypocrites.

Until the Palestinian Authority cleanses itself of the corruption and extremism that has always plagued it then we can talk about who can do what.

The nonsense that comes out of the PA didn't happen because "muh Israel mean" but, in fact, because it has always been run by crazies or corrupt sleazes.

Israeli hardline policies actually helps the extemists got more influence so here we have, a vicious circle.

We may debate whether harsh measures are morally accetable or now, the present politics is not working.

FTR, I've always supported Israel's "right to exist", and that's why I'm concerned about Israel doing harm to itself.

You're the one who needs to defend Israel at every turn (and resort to accusations of bias at all times, because remember, criticizing Israel means you hate the Jews) to sleep at night. :^)

No, it's because the exterminationists have proven for several thousand years that they will come up with any lie they can in order to wipe every last Jew off this planet, and they know that too many uninformed people will believe it. But nice victim blaming.

Oh wow, in less than three full lines, you

1) Unironically use "exterminationist" in reference to any sort of criticism of the Israeli state.
2) Believe that any criticism of the Israeli state is a lie fabricated to wipe the Jews off the face of the planet.
3) Perpetuated a ridiculous notion that to criticize Israel, one must be uninformed, where the reality is that the more informed you are, the more likely you are to criticize Israeli actions.
4) Insinuated that the Jews are always the victim no matter what and can never do any wrong.

How much are they paying you for this?

We're not talking about criticizing Israel, we're talking about blood-libeling Israel with fake stories in order to incite people against them, a popular act with deadly consequences for us for a very long time. Before there was an Israel in the modern era, they did it against our diaspora population, but the result is always the same.

You've proven in the past that you don't take the threat of anti-semitism very seriously, so none of this surprises me.

I'm not a BDSer, so don't engage in the simplistic thinking of lumping all critics of Israel together just so you can attack the crazy criticism and ignore the stuff that isn't crazy. Indeed, let's please just stick to this one point, how to provide, if at all possible, the West Bank with a water supply that could not be subjected to such hoaxes in the future.

Even if the system collapsed after being turned over to the PA because of corruption, it still would advance Israel interests to eliminate this one area from dispute. Indeed, the only hope I see for any progress being made in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute is thru small issues such as this.since there's no will on any part to strike a grand bargain acceptable to both sides right now.

Some decent points here, but recent fiascos in Gaza proved that even when Israel is nowhere to be found, and the Palestinians are granted autonomy, certain corners of the media will still dutifully report a flash flood during the rainy season as "Israel opens dam to flood Gaza". That one didn't quite spread as far and wide as this, though.

Essentially, while I think it might be a good idea for Israel to begin turning over certain Arab-run areas of the West Bank to PA control in areas like utilities (although I'm not sure they wouldn't have to eventually step back in to avoid a humanitarian crisis, given graft and Hamas), it wouldn't solve the core issue of outlets like the Independent spreading lies like this worldwide.

Just because it wouldn't be a 100% solution to the problem doesn't mean that it shouldn't be implemented.  At this point, the only reason I can see a total transfer potentially problematic as far as Israeli safety is concerned is if the chemicals used in water treatment could be diverted to nefarious uses, but even that would seem solvable. (At least solvable to the level that the problem would be no worse that what Hamas can smuggle in Gaza now, even if a total breakdown in order happened in the West Bank.)

Of course, if the reason to have not handed over control of water by now has something to do with allocation of the scarce water supply in the area, then I can see Israel's reluctance, especially as it tries to create more facts on the ground that will require more water from the ground.

Do you guys ever realize that the reason people automatically believe Israel would do something like this is because Israel has proven before that they'll do things such as this?
In alternate world:
Right-sing conspiracist publishes article entitled: "Palestinians collaborating with Tehran to detonate nuclear bomb on Tel Aviv, slaughter Israeli Jews."
Right-winger posts article on atlas with provocative title.
Article proved to be hoax, poster rightly mocked. criticized, etc.
Other right-wing poster whines: "but there's a reason why people believe this stuff, and it's because the Palestinians are terrible monsters etc. etc.
Sound about right?

Because, at the end of the day, if you fall for a hoax, and post said hoax in the internal board (not even in the Israel discussion board, because apparently this requires a new thread of it's own!) you should man up and take the mockery and the criticism. It also says something that hoaxes tend to get much more time of day when it comes this particular issue,. This is, in my opinion, very interesting, and should be studied further from a psychological perspective (ie is it really because of SCARY JEW/PALESTINIAN, or something else).

At least True Federalist is trying to change the subject to another important subject (namely, the under-discussed issue of water rights etc.) I dont think that requires a thread of it's own, and believe that the conspiracy theory aspect itself is of more interest, but that's ultimately just a difference of perspective. You, the idiot rot-brained hipster neckbeard from Manhattan on the other hand, have nothing to add, because you are nothing, you know nothing except for blathering trivialities on the level of the 2016 Presidential Discussion Board, which is very sad because International Discussion is one of the few boards remaining where non-stupid people discuss interesting issues, and really doesn't need intellectual non-entities like you invading. So if you and your hoax-posting bosom pal can just self-deport and make this board more readable, that would be much appreciated.
